This new local business is a work in progress. The pizza and sandwich I ate there on two separate occasions were not amazing. The main issue is that both the sandwich and the pizza were watery and lacking in flavor. If they added more spices, greatly decreased the amount of tomatoes and sauce on “The Janet” and used fresh fruit over canned fruit, I think that would help them get to where they are trying to go! The pizza crust was crispy, though, so that is a plus! I will say, though, that their rolls and baked goods are phenomenal The other star of the show is Janet!! She is amazing – so warm and friendly and willing to give you discounts whenever she can! Janet makes me want to keep coming back – I just hope they can improve upon their menu and turn Luna Sol into a true Old Louisville staple!

I got a slice of pepperoni pizza. They made it fresh. It was SO GOOD. Hot, cheesy, melty, sauce was slightly sweet. Crust perfectly charred. Somewhat thin, but fluffy at the same time. (I don’t think slices were on the menu, so just ask.)

I mean, I’m not a food critic, but I’ve had a few slices of pizza in my life, and this one was REALLY good.

I actually didn’t even look at the menu, cuz all I wanted was a slice. But there WAS a menu and it seemed like a bunch of pizza options and some sandwiches. They also had a few homemade pastries for sale.

I only stumbled upon this place. From what I understand, they were open briefly this past winter, shifted ownership, and just reopened. So I’m sure they’re still working out a lot of details. But the details don’t matter for that slice of pepperoni pizza.

They seem like good people, too.

A Hidden Gem That Feels Like Home — Luna Sol Pizzeria & Bakery

I don’t even know where to begin, because words honestly don’t do justice to the experience I had at Luna Sol Pizzeria & Bakery in Old Louisville. Walking through their doors felt like walking into someone’s home—someone who genuinely wants you to feel loved, seen, and full.

And at the heart of it all? Janet—an absolute angel in human form. I’ve never met someone in the service industry who made me feel more cared for, more welcome, or more like family. Kindness like hers isn’t just rare—it’s sacred. She has the kind of warmth that stays with you long after you leave, the kind that can turn a hard day around with just a smile and a plate of food made with love.

When she brought over free desserts—yes, completely unprompted and from the goodness of her heart—I nearly lost it. Her homemade peach cobbler was warm, sweet, and tasted like it had been passed down through generations. And that jelly-filled tart? A perfect balance of buttery, flaky, and bright. It wasn’t just dessert—it was a gift. A moment of unexpected joy in a world that doesn’t always hand those out easily.

And don’t even get me started on the pizza. Crispy, tender crust, the freshest ingredients, and flavor combinations that somehow make you nostalgic and thrilled at the same time. It’s the kind of pizza that makes you put your phone down, close your eyes, and just feel how good life can be.

Luna Sol should be on everyone’s radar. No—scratch that. It should be a destination. A place you go not just for incredible food, but to be reminded that kindness, soul, and passion still exist in this world.

Janet and her team are doing more than feeding people—they’re making memories, healing hearts, and turning strangers into family. I walked in hungry. I left full—body, heart, and soul.

Go. Go today. And tell Janet thank you—for being a light in this world.

I stopped in after seeing their new open sign and ordered a 12″ veggie pizza. While I waited, the owners and I chatted and I was given a delicious free chicken empanada. Especially loved the broccoli on the veggie pizza. I’ve recommended to my coworkers and friends and I’ll definitely be back!
