Lume West Village. Pronounced Lu-Me, our name whispers of illumination and discovery in Italian. By day, a café and bakery. As shadows lengthen, we transform – a lunch spot, then a cocktail bar and restaurant as night falls. From 8:30 AM until late, Lume adapts to your rhythm. At our core stands a U-shaped bar, an architectural centerpiece. Above, an enigmatic light array sets the stage for what’s to come. Our offerings: Modern Italian cuisine with a French flair. Curated coffees & pastries start your journey. For lunch, indulge in antipasti like Wagyu Carpaccio or Caponata, or savor our fresh pasta dishes. As the day unfolds, so does our menu. Intriguing cocktails, surprising dishes, and captivating desserts are available.

We started our meal with the fried calamari and grilled octopus. The calamari batter was light and cooked to perfection, simply amazing. The octopus on the other hand was overcooked giving it a slight rubbery texture. The sauce and potatoes that accompanied the octopus were perfect.

For main dishes we ordered the Bucatini Cacio e Pepe, Spaghetti Alla Carbonara, Rigatoni Alla Provenzana, and the NY Strip. All three pasta dishes were undercooked perhaps another minute or two and they would have made it to al dente. The portions were also smaller than expected. The Cacio e Pepe was dry and overly peppery even for this dish. The rigatoni dish looked and tasted like it was sitting while the other dishes were being prepared. The NY strip was cooked more medium than what I ordered, medium rare. The steak was covered with a tasteful pistachio crust however the steak itself was lacking some salt and pepper.

The restaurant itself was perfectly decorated we really loved the lighting specially once it got dark out. They dimmed the lights and brought out candles to the tables. It was unfortunate that the food didn’t complete our special occasion.

I came here after seeing so many videos praising the ambiance, and while the space was nice and the staff was friendly, the overall experience fell short of expectations.
Service was slow throughout the evening. We waited a long time for our waitress to check in after the initial welcome, drinks took a while to arrive, and our food came out lukewarm, as if it had been sitting before being served. Unfortunately, this took away from the experience, especially since this was meant to be a birthday dinner.
I noted on OpenTable that it was a birthday, but there was no acknowledgment at all, which was disappointing. I understand these things aren’t guaranteed, but a small gesture or mention would’ve gone a long way.
The food itself was okay, though not memorable for the price. I also wasn’t aware the carbonara used an Italian-style bacon, which threw off the dish for me personally.
Overall, not a terrible experience, but not what I expected based on the hype. With more attentive service and better pacing, I think this place could be much better.

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. It’s a fantastic little cozy café‑restaurant with such a welcoming atmosphere. The avocado toast was outstanding, and since we asked to replace the egg on top, they added mushrooms instead. I never imagined that combination would work so well, but it was absolutely excellent. Truly impressive.

Compliments to the staff for the great service, comfort, and delicious food.

Alfredo was our server and he was amazing!!! We got the meatball to start and it was sooooooooo good!! Then I split the carbonara and the truffle pasta and it was UNREAL. HIGHLY recommend . I got a dirty martini and my best friend got the cosmo and the drink were delicious. Couldn’t recommend this place more for a group dinner or keeping small for a date. Vibes are a 10000/10 . LOVEEE

My friend and I were unable to get into the initial restaurant we had planned for one night and stumbled upon this gem where we had a great dining experience.

Upon arriving around 6pm, we were not greeted very well by the host. When we walked in, neither girls said hi or welcome but instead immediately asked do you have a reservation with a tone. Despite this, we were able to be seated immediately at the bar. The waiter and bartenders who took care of us thereafter were very attentive, kind, and helpful.

We ordered the carbonara, wagyu carpaccio, and the truffle and scallop dish, along with a lemon drop martini and a margarita.

Both cocktails were excellent—fresh, balanced, and full of flavor. The carbonara was rich and comforting, and the wagyu carpaccio was beautifully presented and melted in the mouth. The truffle and scallop dish had great depth of flavor, though the scallops were just a bit on the salty side for my taste.

Overall, the meal felt thoughtfully prepared and the atmosphere matched perfectly for a relaxed night out in the West Village. Definitely worth a visit, and I’d love to come back to try more of their menu!

The best coffee and breakfast and pastries! Perfect place to stop in the morning or afternoon. Delightful service and atmosphere. A local’s spot hidden in the West Village.
Great coffee – americano flat white with alternative milks.
Seating options to choose from – tables or cosy booths.
I would highly recommend eating or coffees from here!!! A bit of a hidden gem I would say, I will be visiting again.
Very clean and great lighting.

Ambiance here is amazing, I’m a big fan of the ceiling lights over the bar area! Drinks are lovely, food can be on the saltier side but still very good – roasted mushrooms and focaccia bread were great. Definitely want to come back and try the entrees here

I came in with zero expectations and left obsessed. The food was insanely good — fresh, flavorful, and worth every penny. But honestly, the highlight of my visit was the service. Nina was incredible. Warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. She made the whole experience feel personal and welcoming without hovering or forcing anything.

You can tell she cares about people and loves what she does. Restaurants need more servers like her.

Will absolutely be back. Great food. Even better service.

I was very sad when Extra Virgin closed, as it had been one of my staples in the West Village. But it has been replaced by this very fine Italian restaurant that I’ll be glad to frequent. The space is now cooler with a more contemporary vibe. The food is not as earthy as Extra Virgin but is more creative. The warm focaccia is maybe the best I’ve ever had. The meat and cheese starter was excellent. The caccio E pepe was a little short on pepe with very sharp cheese but the pasta was perfectly cooked. Sat at the bar with great service and all in all was a perfect dinner. Bye Extra Virgin. I no longer miss you.

I’ve been back twice and have enjoyed it very much. Sit at the bar for cocktails and focaccia and cheese. You can’t do better for a snack and a drink.
