The ambience was date night vibe. The service was spectacular including from the owner who checked on our table throughout the night. The food was deli pie, especially the Peking duck. A must get item! The red snapper was okay, a bit salty, n flavor was kind of bland. The truffle rice was phenomenal. All the cocktails were delicious as we had quite a few of those. Definitely will be back for more of the duck and other items I didn’t get to try.

My family and I made reservation for the new years dinner. The hostess did not have a great attitude when we arrived, personally didn’t feel a welcoming atmosphere. Then he seated us in a booth when I specify that we wanted a table when making the reservation. The hostess told us they didn’t have any tables left for us so it was à take the booth or leave. Since it was new years and we were really hungry we decided to stay in the hopes that the food would be good. Unfortunately it wasn’t even though we were hungry it didn’t wowed us. We ordered the dumplings for starters, wagyu roll and the chicken lettuce wrap. For main dishes we ordered the sweet and sour pork ( mild -which was super spicy) the wagyu roll, braised rice with black truffle and mushrooms ( they don’t have regular fried rice). The service was slow and they forgot one of our rice orders. The water refill was so slow. Honestly the only dishes I would Recomend could be the fried dumplings. Anything else was soggy and tasteless. The place has a very nice atmosphere and music.

We were really excited to try this place, especially the Peking duck, but unfortunately it didn’t live up to expectations. The duck was quite tasteless, and the skin wasn’t crispy at all — which is honestly the best part of Peking duck. There was also a lot of fat that had melted out, making it feel greasy rather than flavorful.

The fish dish and beef was okay — nicely presented and decent texture — but nothing particularly special or memorable in terms of flavor.
Drink is good.

Overall, the presentation was beautiful, but the taste didn’t match the price point. Hoping they improve the crispiness and seasoning because the dishes definitely look promising.

Great Ambience, But the Food Didn’t Work for Us

We visited Lulu Modern Chinese and had mixed feelings overall. The ambience is really nice, the space feels upscale, parking is easy, and the staff was friendly and attentive. From that side, the experience was smooth.

Unfortunately, the food didn’t meet our expectations.
The Lulu Tiger Prawns had a good flavor on the outside, but the shrimp felt undercooked inside, which made it hard to enjoy.
The Black Truffle Stewed Egg had a very unusual taste that didn’t work for me at all.
The Crispy Chicken with Latte Sauce looked promising but ended up having very little flavor.
The Braised Rice with Truffle was okay, but nothing stood out.

We did enjoy the drinks. Pretty Lychee and Ube You May were sweet, smooth, and easy to drink, and were probably the best part of the meal. Fries were just average.

What was disappointing is that for a Chinese restaurant, there were no dumplings, no egg drop soup, no fried rice, and no kids menu, which felt limiting, especially when dining with family.

The total came to around $160, and for that amount, the food quality and taste didn’t feel worth it for us. While the ambience and service were good, the flavors just didn’t match our preference. Overall, it was a disappointing experience, and not somewhere we’d choose to return.

We had an incredible NYE Dinner at this new gem of a restaurant in Plano, Lulu Modern Chinese. The food, service, and ambiance were all spot on fantastic.

The food isn’t old school Asian nor is it Americanized Asian, it is in a separate category that they appropriately call “Modern.”

The restaurant is beautiful and hits perfectly at the point where a suit & tie / dress or jeans & a nice shirt meet.

The service is friendly and professional. Everyone working, from one of the owners (who was also busing tables) to the waiters, bartenders, host, and food runners were smiling and happy.

The live music was wonderful and once again they hit perfect target with volume. We could clearly hear the musician and could also hear each other talking without having to speak loudly.

The presentation of all dishes was well done and fit the elevated, but still comfortable target. The tableside flaming whole duck stole the show and resulted in many cell phone videos and appreciation of the guest. The duck was cripsed to perfection and tasty. The optional sugar and pineapple tableside was an added bonus.

The Beef Short Ribs was Terry’s favorite and he’s already planning our next visit to have it again.

The Truffled Egg was amazing and without a doubt the best we’ve ever had. A definite MUST order.

The Tiger Prawns were a very elevated take on the Americanized Walnut Chicken dish and even people that aren’t fans of the typical dish in other restaurants should try this version.

The Chocolate Moose was delicious without being overly sweet.

Lulu Modern Chinese should be on everyone’s rotation for Date Nights, Special Occasions, Dinner With Friends, etc.

We will be back soon and will be there often.

Lulu’s Modern Chinese was an absolute standout, and our server Fanta made the whole evening next-level.

We ordered the green beans, the red snapper, yuzu margaritas, and an old fashioned — everything was spot-on. The green beans were crazy flavorful, the snapper was perfectly cooked, and the cocktails were balanced and smooth.

Fanta tied it all together with truly exceptional service. She was warm, attentive, and had great timing with everything. Her recommendations were on point, and she made sure every dish hit the table just right. The cocktails could’ve used a little more alcohol, but that’s my only critique.

If you’re heading to Lulu’s Modern Chinese, definitely ask for Fanta. She turned a great meal into a five-star experience.

Food was great and we can definitely see that chef is trying to bring his own take to Thai food, which is not typical of all thai restaurants around.

Onky suggestion – please add some more poultry menu items.

Service was a bit slow, restaurant was pretty empty as it was the night before snow storm, still server took 15 mins to take our order

Great ambiance. Great service. Amazing menu – its a gift that keeps giving. Been there twice within a few days. Only major con is their payment cap for groups they don’t let you know even when they check in to confirm reservations. Its not on their website either. A friend made reservation for 7 people and could only accept 4 cards with even payments unless we told them how much to card each card, and the latter option (which we chose) had a lot of math calculations as you can image. This needs to be fixed as it a great place for groups for sure. Other that this, I can’t recommend it enough.

Decided to try this place after I saw they were having a grand opening recently. I made a reservation for a Saturday night at 8pm. I was very surprised when I checked in, I was seated after just a few minutes. Even with reservations these days, you may have to wait awhile.
We started with cocktails. We ordered the Kids of the Dragon and the Tokyo Drift. Loved the Kiss of the Dragon, not so much the Tokyo Drift. Kaitlin our server was great and quickly brought another Kiss of the Dragon to replace the drink I didn’t like. Little things like this is huge in the service industry!
For appetizers, we had the wagyu rolls and the chilled pork belly. Both tasted great but our favorite was the wagyu rolls. The sauce on both though were incredible! It was the perfect amount to get us started since we were pretty hungry.
For entrees we ordered the Szechuan chicken, filet mignon stir fry, and the vital veggies. I have to admit, we thoroughly loved every dish! The szechuan chk was crispy, garlicky, spicy, and full of flavor. The filet mignon was tender, cooked perfectly, and just very satisfying with the onions and peppers. The stir fried veggies were amazing! Perfectly cooked with snap and crunch, and the sauce was out of this world. I don’t know what it was but it’s light and flavorful. Almost like a moo good gai pan sauce but much more elevated. We ordered 2 Jasmin rice and they were also prepared perfectly.
All in all, we had a great time and loved this dining experience. Service from Kaitlin was great and she did a wonderful job! The ambiance is really cool and modern and the music was great! It is a little loud but since we loved the music, it was a vibe.
The only draw back was the pace of meal and timing, but more timing. Food tends to come out when it’s ready. For appetizers, it’s OK but for entree time, we got the chk dish out first in a single bowl. No rice or plates with it. Kaitlin did however catch it and brought us both immediately. As Asian, you have to have your rice with your entrees! Lol. We then ordered 2 more different cocktails. The Korean Pornstar and Once Upon A Flame. Both good but the One upon a flame (Asian version Old Fashion) was the winner! I have to note that is is supposed to be smoked tableside and whoever delivered the drink, failed to give us that presentation, which was disappointing, but Kaitlin quickly took it back and returned with the smoky box to fulfill our presentation.
We had a total of 5 cocktails, 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, a vegetable side dish, and 2 rice. Total was about $230ish with 20% tip. We did have doggy bags for a nice lunch the next day. I highly recommend this place and can’t wait to go back to try other things but will want to eat what I already had again. Not a bad problem to have though. Lol

The food was acceptable but did not particularly stand out compared to other similar restaurants I’ve visited. One area that could be improved is the waiting time, as the dishes took quite a while to be served. On the positive side, the restaurant has a well-designed and pleasant atmosphere, and the staff was friendly and attentive. With some improvements in kitchen efficiency, the overall dining experience could be much better.
