I set out in search of Lucy’s Bakery after hearing repeated whispers that it was the spot for baked goods in Skagway. My first stop was their second location tucked inside a charming little courtyard within the bazaar. The courtyard itself had more atmosphere than the interior, which felt a bit spartan and could have used a cleanup, so I opted for courtyard seating.

I ordered a drip coffee, the much-talked-about cinnamon roll, and a chocolate chip cookie. The lone staff member handled the order, though her attention was clearly divided by a friend who had dropped by to chat and test out a bike. She got me what I needed, but warmth wasn’t part of the exchange, and she didn’t ask whether I wanted the cinnamon roll warmed. Still, the baked goods themselves lived up to the reputation: tender, sweet, and satisfying enough to justify the detour.

Later that morning, wandering through town, I stumbled onto Lucy’s original storefront—the blue one shown in other reviews. Same menu, entirely different energy. The person working there was lively, welcoming, and genuinely eager to share local tidbits. It was the kind of interaction that makes a bakery stop feel like a small delight rather than a transaction and left me wishing my sole experience was at this location.

In the end, Lucy’s delivers where it matters most: in the baking. Just know that your experience may hinge on which location—and which staff (local vs seasonal; giving Lucy’s the benefit of the doubt)—you meet along the way.

On a cruise coming into Skagway on a Sunday? This place is the only coffeeshop in town open in the afternoon, aka after you get back from a morning excursion. Located right off the main drag through a covered pathway (look for the sign and the railroad tracks on the ground). No AC inside, but there’s a nice breeze and covered tables on the spacious patio for hot days. Good coffee and decent pastries, and plenty of seating.

We visited Lucy’s on June 2nd during our Alaskan cruise trip.

This place was given as a recommendation from one of the servers at the Skagway brewing company. He told us that we hands down had to get one of the cinnamon rolls at Lucy’s before we left.

So we made the quick little walk to this bakery headed away down a cool tunnel looking alley to get that cinnamon roll.

The bakery itself was very cute it had two sections inside and was quite welcoming. The individual behind the cash register I believe was one of the owners and he had nothing but a big smile on his face and was greeting everyone so warmly. He was also quite excited to give out recommendations when we told him it was our first time here. For my caffeinated drink I got there summer latte which had a bit of lavender. It was deliciously silky smooth. The rest of my party just wanted straight up caffeine and got a special shots that work great quality.

Now for the main event which was the cinnamon roll. We were so lucky that there were three left. Our group before got two of them and it was the best decision we made. The bread itself was soft with a little bit of a crunch on the outside. The glaze on top was not overly sweet and had such a rich flavor that it truly enhanced the spices within the cinnamon roll itself.

If you are ever in the area and have a chance to try out Lucy’s bakery go early to make sure that you can get one of them cinnamon rolls!

I only ordered the cinnamon roll. They bill it as the best cinnamon roll of your life. It was definitely in the top few. You need them to warm it for you. And then it’s soft, and moist, and the icing is gooey.

Texture and taste are spot-on.

This has to be the best cinnamon role I’ve ever had. What started off as a sweet treat for my son turned into the entire family taking turns for a bite. The customer service was excellent and our snack stop at Lucy’s really enhanced the overall enjoyment of our Skagway trip!

Tiny bakery off of Broadway, but absolutely delicious! My wife had a mango taijin cupcake which is now her favorite cupcake of all time. I grabbed two of the chocolate chip cookies and they are EPIC. So soft and chewy, really great balance of salt and sweet. Skip the ice cream parlor on Broadway with its Dreyer’s ice cream and go to Lucy’s!!

If you’re tired of the borderline stale pastries served on your cruise ship, RUN to Lucy’s in Skagway. We stumbled into the small location on Broadway and 5th and we’re so glad we did.

It’s a tiny shop bursting at the seams in flavor. I got a vanilla scone and it was an absolute banger. The vanilla was laced throughout each bite and this scone was soft enough to savor and was never dry. It was a delight.

Service is friendly and it’s a charming place.
