While visiting Petoskey Michigan, we thought we would drop into Lucky ‘s for lunch, we have 5 different Lucky’s restaurants closer to home and have been patrons in them for probably 20 years. We were surprised as we approached the restaurant that there was few cars in the parking lot at 1:00 on a Saturday. Once we were seated we noticed barely 25 % of the tables were occupied. After our soup and salad dishes were cleared , we awaited at least 30 minutes , before our house specialty Luckys French dip sandwiches with fries arrived … cold. We sampled them a little, and waited extensively for the non return of our waitress. We eventually flagged down a waiter , who managed to get the manager to our table a few minutes later. I asked the manager if Mr Lucky was grumpy when he visited, she replied he often was , I completely understood why. The manager handled our situation instantly and correctly and dissolved our bill. This was the worst experience we have ever had at a Lucky’s restaurant. My understanding is this restaurant has been open for about a year, Im hopeful Lucky can turn this restaurant around, like his other locations. It’s a great location, but we’ve come to expect : good food, decent service, generous portions, and decent prices from “Lucky ‘s ” restaurants. Hopefully, he builds one in Bad Axe, Michigan, it would swallow up all the restaurant business in Huron County.

The food is good for the price range. I really liked the stuffed crab grouper. However, that and most of the food that we ordered was pretty greasy. The restaurant is pretty crowded, and it felt like everybody was close together. The service was great, and we didn’t wait too long for our food. Because the restaurant isn’t downtown, the parking is easy.

My husband and I had an absolutely wonderful lunch and our server was friendly and attentive. We started with the dynamite shrimp appetizer. At least a dozen breaded and fried shrimp with a unique and spicy sauce. My husband had the perch and it was a literal tower of 5 filets on mashed potatoes with a lemon cream sauce, a side of coleslaw and a cup of French onion soup. I had the shrimp and crab stuffed grouper smothered with a creamy lobster sauce, macaroni and cheese and a cup of French onion soup. The portions are large so we took a lot of the food with us. Next time, yes we’re planning on going back this weekend, we’ll order about half the amount. I highly recommend Lucky’s Prime Time restaurant.

Food was good. We had stuffed mushrooms , delicious! I had ribs that were huge full rack and very tender falling off bone the way I like them. So much I took most home for a couple more meals. My husband had the Prime rib au jus which he said was good.
My only complaint is on the table was a three sided folding card showing for example, Monday burger special and the daily drink specials of which was Tuesday martini for $7.00. No where on there did it say happy hour. Each day a different special. When our bill came my martini was 9.25. I asked the waitress and she took it to the manager and said no that’s only happy hour! If that’s true they need to change the placard to read happy hour or take it off the table after happy hour is over!

2026 Review:

Wow! Its been a little over a year since we had eaten here, but I have to say I am very impressed with our dinner tonight.

The garlic bread is still VERY salty.

Portions were large and we left stuffed.

I had the crab cakes and shrimp again (not remembering I had had them last time I was here). I managed to eat 2 of them and only stopped because I was stuffed. They were salty, but not as I had experienced my previous visit.

My husband loved his rib eye.

Everything is reasonably priced, especially for the portion. We left with plenty of extra food to snack on later.

2024 Review Below:

We had a brand new waiter. He was SUPER friendly and we enjoyed our interactions, however we did get the wrong entrée and an incorrect drink.

The atmosphere is nice.

I had the crab cakes and shrimp, and chose the Brussels sprouts for a side. Everything was SO salty. Unbearably salty. I only ate 1 of 3 of my crab cakes and couldn’t take any more. The crab cakes tasted like salt and mayonnaise and it just wasn’t pleasant. I rarely leave food I cannot eat (I prefer to take it to-go) but the only place suitable for this meal was the trash.

The Brussels had bacon and parmesan with balsamic, but they were covered in salt. I have never eaten anywhere where so much salt was used.

The bread that was brought to the table was a garlic salted bread, and again SO salty.

The side salad was great.

My husband ordered the 16oz rib eye, but received a 16oz prime rib. That was HUGE, but not what he was expecting.

We’ll probably try Lucy’s again at some point, and hope that things go better next time. There’s a large menu, so I’m sure I’ll find something I like, and I’ll be sure to ask them to be easy on the salt.

I was happy I was finally able to eat here. Since this place opened up it has been jammed packed and now I see why! The food was great! I had the Bourbon Steak with a side salad and the Brussels Sprouts w/ bacon, parmesan, and balsamic vinaigrette. It was delicious! Portions sizes are big so come to eat with an appetite and our server was friendly with an overall good dining experience. Prices are great too! I look forward to going back.

I ordered takeout online from Lucky’s Prime Time in Petoskey. When I arrived, everything went smoothly at first — the staff was nice, and I only waited about 10 minutes for my food. But when I got home (about 6 minutes away), I realized both of our mashed potatoes and the extra loaf of bread were missing, and there was food in our bag that wasn’t ours.

I called right away and politely explained the situation, letting them know I was on my way back so they could have the missing items ready. When I got there, the hostess was on the phone, so I waited patiently. Another customer came in with her wrong order and was helped before me, even though I was there first. I asked to see a manager — the hostess walked off and went into the bathroom pretending to cry, and the manager came out halfway, went back, then finally came back again to ask what I was missing. After explaining multiple times and waiting again, it took about another 15 minutes to get my mashed potatoes and bread.

The manager mentioned the hostess was new, which I understand, but she didn’t seem to step in or handle the situation professionally.

As for the food — my steak was good, but for spending around $90, I expected better quality overall. The mashed potatoes were so salty they were barely edible, and I’m really not a picky eater.

Overall, I left disappointed. Mistakes happen, but the way it was handled and the quality of the food didn’t live up to the price or the experience I was hoping for.

My husband and I went there this past Wednesday night for a spontaneous date night. Because it was a Wednesday it was slower and emptier than usual as compared to our previous dates that would happen on Fridays and Saturdays. It has become one of our favorite dinner date spots. We were served by Mandy who has become my favorite waitress there. The bartender Lexi made two delicious mocktails for me as I don’t drink, while the mocktails weren’t on the menu (they should be), they were more than happy to accommodate. Great service and great food, worth every penny every time! My favorite dishes are the Salon New Orleans and the Stuffed salmon. Had the stuffed salmon last time, I rate it 25/10!

The service was very fast and the server was so friendly and informative! There was never a time where we waited for refills the server was that good! The steaks were cooked perfectly and the cajin steak bite app was so flavourful. We will definitely be returning! Luckys of a great place to stop in for a bite and not spend too much money.

Review for Lucky’s Prime Time – Petoskey, MI

Stopped into Lucky’s Prime Time in Petoskey recently and gave the blackened mahi-mahi a shot. The fish itself was solid—cooked well with a nice sear and good flavor. The sauce complimented it nicely, no complaints there.

Where it missed the mark a bit was the sides. The shrimp? Definitely overcooked. Tough and dry, not the juicy bite you’d hope for. And the baked potato was… not baked. More like a lukewarm, underdone afterthought.

I’ve been to their Gaylord location before and had a better overall experience, so my expectations were a bit higher walking in. That said, this wasn’t a bad meal—just didn’t quite live up to the bar they’ve set elsewhere.

Will I give it another go? Yeah, I will. One off night doesn’t write the whole story. Here’s hoping next round brings that same quality I know they’re capable of.
