We have been loyal customers of Lucky Wok for nearly 20 years, but something has fundamentally changed recently. It feels like there may be new ownership or a different team in the kitchen, because while the menu looks the same, the soul of the food is missing.

Our long-time go-to favorites just aren’t hitting the mark anymore. The Singapore Noodles, which used to be perfectly balanced, are now lacking the spice and meatiness we loved. The Salt & Pepper Fried Smelt—once a crispy, flavorful staple—arrived oily and lacked that signature crunch. Even the Eggplant with Pork (or garlic sauce) feels like it’s lost its ‘zest’ and depth of flavor.

It’s disappointing to see such a reliable local spot lose its edge after two decades. We really hope they can find their way back to the quality and consistency that made them a favorite for so many years

Update 3/12/2024:

Lucky Wok changed ownership and unfortunately so did the quality and serving sizes.

While I will go back for my bitter melon craving, it’s no longer my go to Chinese place anymore.

My absolute favorite Chinese place in the West Chicago Suburbs!!

While it’s only a takeout place, the food, price, and service is fantastic!

Your neighborhood hole in the wall that’s worth driving to even if it’s 5+ miles away as I do at least twice a week.

I’m truly fortunate to have Lucky Wok as my go to as I only eat veggies, fruits, and beans.

The veggies are great and the meat dishes are even better!

The Orange Chicken and Singapore Noodles are really good. Food is fresh and hot. I ordered for pick up not dine-in.

Worst chinese food I’ve ever had in my life by a significant margin. I ordered the Sichuan Chicken and the Kung Pao Chicken and I couldn’t tell them apart when I laid them out at my dining room table because they were both made with the same horrible bland and mushy chicken from a freezer burnt bag deep in the crevasses of their freezer. The sauce tasted like it was watered down with tap water and barely had an inkling of flavor IF you closed your eyes and imagined a picture of good tasting chinese food in your head. The chicken from the Chicken Chow Mein was so flavorless I had a better taste in my mouth walking outside in the parking lot with exhaust fumes in my face whilst I was picking up my order. I immediately threw all of the food in the trash and I would have rather done that before even opening the bag rather than having the displeasure of tasting the food and then having it thrown out. If you went to the grocery store and spent $36 of your hard earned dollars all on oatmeal it would be a better use of your money because you can make oatmeal taste good by putting ingredients in it AS OPPOSED TO this irredeemable excuse for ‘food’ that even after having to put my fork down and brainstorm for several minutes on how the flavor could be improved in any way I COULD NOT THINK OF ANY. ITS UNFAIR that when you go on their website they use stock images of ACTUALLY TASTY LOOKING chinese food to lure you into a false sense of hope that your EVENING WONT BE RUINED. Worst chinese take out experience of my life I would seriously spend my money ANYWHERE BUT HERE. I liked the atmosphere and the ladies are nice. My order was ready on time.

I placed a large carry out order this week. Everyone seemed to agree that the portion for the price was great. Most of the folks in my party had no issues but I thought my vegetarian entree was really bad. I ordered Chinese broccoli with garlic sauce and we got sauteed bok choy in the most watery, flavorless sauce I’ve ever had from a Chinese restaurant. We also got the vegetable egg rolls and while we were so excited to be able to have real egg rolls (not the tiny spring rolls) we both found them to be bland and oily. I wouldn’t come again.

My friend and I were biking around when we found this adorable little resturaunt with some of the best asian food I have ever had. I have been to some of the nicest Asian restaurants in the country, including Shanghai Terrace in downtown Chicago at the Peninsula and this beats all of it.

We love ordering take out from them because the food is good, it’s ready in 15-20 minutes, and they do the best of any restaurant on packaging your food. A+

The sweet and sour pork came with the wrong type of meat, too many legs to be pork! Pretty sure it was purposeful as there were multiple in there, health department was called immediately..

Never been less motivated to eat Chinese food. Crab Rangoon were just sad and more wonton than filling. Chicken, beef, and rice all greasy and bland. General chicken (which is supposed to be spicy) tastes like ketchup and sugar as a sauce. Imagine your fortune cookie not having a fortune either lol.
