I had been interested in trying this establishment for a while due to its high stars and finally got the opportunity to stop by for lunch Friday about 3:00 PM. When we sat down at the bar there was no attendant, only two other gentlemen that looked like they where finishing up their meal. We ended up waiting approximately 20 minutes for anyone to greet us and hand us menus. We started off with some Coronas while we looked over the menu. Thankfully the bartender stayed near by this time. I ordered just a classic burger with cheddar. Mu friend got the meatball sandwich. Once our order was placed, we waited about 10 or so minutes for the food to come out. It did come out hot and looked very presentable. At first i thought the branding on the top bun might add too much of a char taste but I was pleased when I bit in and it did not taste burnt at all. For 16$ you get a side and a pretty large sized burger. The meat itself was very juicy and the whole burger held together very well despite being pretty big. I was pleased with my food, my friend thought the meatball sandwich could use some more flavor. Overall, I was happy with the food but I was surprised the service took so long to attend to us. If I am in the area again I will be open to try it again, hopefully next time its a better experience.

The food was delicious, although the portion of calamari was a bit small. However, I was disappointed to find that the menu was limited when there was a show at the Genesis Theater, with only two appetizer options and three main courses. Our waitress seemed careless, unlike her colleague, who was very nice and took the time to explain the menu to another table. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend this place.

Historic building in the little downtown area, wonderful owner shared all about the menu. The burger was amazing but the homemade onions rings were even better! The wings were made fresh not frozen and were some of the bestvwe have ever had. We brought our newly graduated Sailor in the following day for his first post boot camp meal. He loved it!

We had such a great time at this bar that we ended up going twice during our short vacation! Both nights featured live music with a DJ, which gave the place a fun and energetic vibe without being overwhelming. The food really impressed us—everything was made fresh, which is rare to find at a bar. Drinks were solid and strong, with a great selection of martinis (their specialty), and each one we tried was spot on.
Our waiter—who I’m pretty sure is also the owner—was incredibly nice and down to earth. You can tell he genuinely cares about the place and wants every customer to have a great experience. That personal touch really made a difference. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area!

I’ve been here twice with my family and both times were well worth it. If you’re looking for a laid-back, chill place to eat and drink, this is the spot.
We were greeted with a smile as soon as we walked in and felt very welcomed. The customer service was great. Our food came out quickly and it was delicious! The owner wasn’t lying when he said everything is homemade. It was fresh and full of flavor.
I highly recommend Lucky Scottie!

Stumbled out of the cold and into Lucky Scottie before a show at the Genessee Theatre and we are so glad that we did. The owner, David, was affable and explained that they have a special menu on show nights so they can get people fed and out the door on time for their show. A choice of two appetizers, three entrees, two salads (with option to add protein), and two desserts.
Cocktails were delicious — I had a Manhattan, my wife had a chocolate martini. The calamari was seriously some of the best we have ever had. We both got the burger, which was accompanied by delicious fries. The burger was fresh, hand-packed, great toppings, toasted bun. Generous portion and beautifully-presented.
Service was as fast as we needed it; we were in and out inside of 45 minutes and made it to our show with time to spare. If we hadn’t still been so full from dinner, I might have gone back after the show for another drink and another plate of calamari. We don’t go to the Genessee very often, but next time we do, we’ll plan on Lucky Scottie for dinner beforehand and/or drinks afterward.

This restaurant truly felt like a home away from home. Being in an unfamiliar city like Chicago, especially since my family and I are from Philly, we were looking for a place that brought us comfortability and this was it. From the moment we walked in, we could feel the warmth and love in the atmosphere. The food was absolutely incredible you could truly taste the authenticity and care in every bite. We loved it so much, we came back twice during our three-day stay for my cousins Navy graduation. I’m so grateful we got to experience such a welcoming and special place. I genuinely hope to return one day.

We ate here prior to a show at the theater. There was a bit of a mix up/delay in our order BUT the owner went above and beyond to make it right. Talk about customer service! Food was good. Very generous portions on the salads. One party had a burger and fries and said is was delicious also! Will definitely be back!

I’ve eaten here several times over the last year and the food never disappoints. They cook with attention to detail and everything is quality and delicious. I’m a martini guy and they pour a beauty and love their beers on tap. It’s a great spot in a convenient Genesee location before a show or anytime near downtown Waukegan which is still a hidden gem.
