Delicious pizza with a charred crust and fresh ingredients. It’s definitely worth the try if you are around the area or thinking about it. Tiramisu was phenomenal. Place can get packed easily. We had a 20 minute wait for our table. Street parking only. Easily accessible by mass transit.

What an experience! What a gem in Bushwick! The service was so welcoming and helpful – the restaurant was packed, absolutely as busy as it could be and yet staff found time to drop by, help us make decisions, and the fantastic host Kyle even showed us the pizza oven! The food was exceptional – the pizza was ultra thin, the red sauce delicious, and the baked phenomenal. We loved the focaccia in the bread service as well as the hummus and pepper oil. The gem Caesar was also a major highlight – inventive, interesting, and yet nostalgic and classic. I’ll have to come back very soon, and I am so happy to have tried this place!

On a snowy night in Bushwick, Brooklyn we made our way to this small outpost which is all the buzz in the local pizza world. As a lover and aficionado of Italy’s finest creation this was an essential stop. We got there early since they don’t take reservations and long lines form quickly. We were seated and then tended to in a very friendly manner throughout our meal. They have a nice selection of wines, cocktails and beers which includes Italian and Sicilian lagers. We started with the chef’s specially selected antipasto plate that included excellent quality, prosciutto, mortadella, salame, cappicollo, mozzarella, provolone, parmeggiano, olives and a wonderful marinated fresh artichoke hearts. We also had fresh, warm, housemade foccacio bread to go with our antipasto that also included a selection of the chef’s anchovy, spicy tomato, Sicilian hummus and pine nut spreads, that were all amazing. The foccacio was cooked in their special and unique coal burning oven, which brings me to the reason this place has become all the rage in the Brooklyn and New York pizza world. This is not just any coal burning oven but the oldest coal working oven in the western hemisphere according to the owners. It was built into the foundation of the building in 1890 and is located in the downstairs basement. The oven works overtime to help create magic in the form of bread and pizza. Now for the pizza, we went with their classic pie and their red pie, the classic had fior di latte cheese, San Marzano tomato sauce, pecorino and Sicilian olive oil, the Red pie has all the same but minus the fior di latte. The oven created a thin crust masterpiece with the edges charred by the intense oven heat. Only some of the best pies that I have had in Napoli or New Haven could come close to matching the cripyness of the dough, the wood flavors and the blending of tomatoes and seasonings. The Red pie really stood out for me for being so primally perfect. I imagined for a moment, my Calabrian ancestors making these early Italian works of wonder. This place did not disappoint and deserves all of the special attention and raves that it is receiving.

This was one of the my fondest dinner experiences ever. We arrived and were told that the wait would be about an hour before we could be seated, so we ordered a couple drinks and cozied up outside underneath the heater. Nino – the owner – stayed outside as well and made us feel right at home. What an incredible guy he is. One can really tell how passionate he is about his craft and it shows.

We ordered a cheese pie and a fennel salad and both were absolutely amazing. The combination of cheeses on the pizza made for an incredible burst of flavor with every bite and the coal oven creates a crust crispier than anything I‘ve ever had. Nino came by every once in a while to chat and share stories with us, which were hilarious. After finishing the pizza we were convinced to also try the sicilian specialty pasta dish called anelletti al forno. Eventhough we were already stuffed, we did and let me say, it was the best anelletti that I‘ve ever had, and I‘ve been to sicily quite a few times. The sauce and the cheese and everything else just made for the perfect pasta dish.

Also the cocktails that we had were so delicious, that I would even go back just for them.

All in all, this was an amazing night which we will not easily forget. Lucky Charlie is not a fancy, high end place but in my eyes it‘s the perfect restaurant: fun and vibrant ambiance, serving simple but perfected dishes and delicios drinks and all that at a very reasonable price.

Nino if you‘re reading this, thank you for an amazing night and greetings from Switzerland!

If you’re looking for an old-school pizzeria and Italian restaurant that feels like it was pulled straight out of classic New York cinema, this is your spot. The bar alone deserves its own fan club—beautiful, polished, and framed by vintage fixtures that practically whisper, “Fuhgeddaboudit,” every time you walk by.

But let’s talk about the food, because that’s where things get dangerously good.

The pizza? Oh boy. These coal-oven pies come out so hot and bubbly they should honestly require a waiver. One bite and the cheese basically performs a slow-motion melt in your mouth, the kind that makes you question why you ever ate pizza anywhere else. The crust is perfect too—crispy enough to hold its own, soft enough that you could probably fold it like a true New Yorker and impress anyone within a 10-foot radius.

And then there’s the pasta. “To die for” doesn’t even begin to cover it. The tomato sauce has this subtly zesty kick that sneaks up on you, like a friendly tap on the shoulder from an Italian grandmother making sure you’re paying attention. It’s honestly one of the best sauces I’ve ever tasted, and I’m convinced they must have a secret recipe locked away in a vault somewhere.

In short: come for the old-New-York charm, stay for the food that will absolutely ruin all other pizza and pasta for you. 10/10, would happily overeat here again !!

I saw this place on Instagram and just had to check it out, and I wasn’t the least bit disappointed. As a lover of “New Haven” style coal oven pizza, this joint was right up my alley. It reminded me a lot of Modern – a very popular spot in Connecticut.

The whole place just has a great atmosphere. It’s old school from the decor to the rest room. They had some 50’s style music playing that set a great tone.

I had a sausage and pepperoni pie, and I’m gonna have a hard time trying anything else, because it was remarkable.

The happy hour is top notch, and the bartender was very friendly.

If you’re in the Bushwick/Ridgewood/Glendale area and this place is accessible to you, what are you waiting for? It’s the best pizza in a wide radius.

I read that they’ve got the first pizza oven in the borough, and honestly, it shows, the pizza is amazing. You can even do half-and-half pies, which is perfect. We had a Margherita and pepperoni combo, and it was delicious, crispy, flavorful, and just the right amount of char.

The space is small with limited seating, so expect a wait, especially during peak hours. But here’s the move: put your name down and head across the street to Boobie Trap, a fun dive bar, while you wait. The staff at Lucky Charlie are friendly and keep things moving once you’re in.

All in all, it’s a solid spot, great pizza, good drinks, good service, and real neighborhood charm. Definitely worth a stop if you’re in the area.

I had high expectations going in, and they definitely exceeded them. We arrived right when they opened, and the place filled up fast. We ordered the classic pizza with sausage, fennel salad, antipasto, and the outstanding tiramisu, everything was excellent. My partner said it’s now in his top 3 favorite pizza places. In addition, the service was spot-on. too. Our server was fantastic, and everything flowed effortlessly.
