I was blown away! I made a reservation online, in the special notes I requested to have a table for two near the band. That’s all I stated, not mentioning the exact reason why. We arrived at 6:30 PM, I was surprising my boyfriend for his birthday. Everyone was so friendly and faces donning smiles when we arrived and we in fact had a table right in front of the band I shared then with the staff that my boyfriend is legally deaf, although he can hear just with some difficulty. Sitting near the band allows him to feel the vibrations from the band and when most hear the music, he feels and hears it.
I can tell you two impressions that we left Sea & Smoke… #1 they have some of the best Fried Rice!! We have since tried many other places, but by far Sea & Smoke is still our favorite! My boyfriend drinks Crown Apple. Sea & Smoke didn’t have it, so they walked right over the The Livingroom and made sure he had his drink. The food, the staff were all impeccable! All went above and beyond and that is so rare these days.
#2 The band- New Groove Jazz Trio Wow, just wow! Beautiful. My heart was so happy just watching my boyfriend “feel” the music. You can tell the band was honored when he gave them that compliment. They played “Happy Birthday,” for him.
Thank you for making what could have been a mediocre night… MAGICAL ✨
Our server, Addy, provided service that fell far short of expectations.
We recently moved to the area and were excited to explore local restaurants — this was the first one we tried. We ordered a course menu and drinks, and while the food was served promptly, we did not see our server again afterward. She never returned to check on us or ask if we needed anything.
My husband’s steak was undercooked, and the center was still cold. Since our server was unavailable, we had to ask another staff member for help. Although a replacement steak was brought, there was no apology or acknowledgment from our server. We had to actively seek her out just to request a steak knife and order additional drinks, as none were provided with the second steak.
She did not return to our table again until she brought the bill.
By that point, we were already quite disappointed. Despite spending a significant amount, we were unable to enjoy our meal or the experience.
Although the food itself was good, the poor service left a lasting negative impression.
We will not be returning to this restaurant.
The MENU is relatively small but has a great variety of options with delicious and unique combinations of flavors. They have simplified their menu to remove all unnecessary gluten (they explained), which makes it easier to have more GF options. It’s certainly on the pricey side, but the quality is clear.
The SERVICE was excellent. They were knowledgeable about what’s in the dishes and happy to check labels when I had specific allergy concerns. They were attentive and used a team approach to serve us.
The ATMOSPHERE is nice and cozy inside, since it’s not a huge space. And they have a lovely patio in front. It was too chilly for us outside, even with the heaters. They also have garage doors to open the space but closed the one next to us as it got colder (which I was thankful for). They have live music on Friday and Saturday, although it was a bit loud for us since we sat so close.
It’s one of our new favorites!
…UPDATE…
We’ve been back many times, and it’s always exceptional.
We took our whole family to celebrate our son’s college graduation, and they were very good about accommodating his dairy and egg allergies. We all loved our meal together.
The only thing I would change is the volume of the music. Every time it’s extremely loud, to the point it’s hard to hear people at your table. It’s wonderful live music, but it really needs to be turned down.
Incomprehensibly, they opened both of the glass “garage doors” even though it was in the mid-60s outside. We asked our server if it was possible to close the one nearest our table, and he said he would ask his manager. I saw him immediately approach a woman working outside and speak with her. The garage doors remained open. I was uncomfortably cold. I saw a man at a table adjacent to our (ridiculously tiny) booth literally sitting on his hands. Yup. Chilly for sure.
With it being so chilly, my $95 meal quickly got cold. Nice.
My $95 meal was delicious. But it was stupid. What idiot thought I should have to buy TWO whole lobster tails, which was double what I could possibly consume? Irritating! Very expensive and the only option was to buy twice as much food as I needed or wanted. Really irritating!
The service was just okay. Barely. For example, it took FIFTEEN MINUTES for my wife’s mocktail to arrive. For example, my fork flew off the (very small) table onto the floor – directly in the line of sight of a server standing at the table next to our (tiny) booth. There’s no way he didn’t notice. But, he blew it off. Ignored it. He wasn’t “our” server, so why bother? Eventually, I got up from our table and walked over to another table (fully in the view of the server that ignored my need) and robbed the fork from the silverware on that table.
There was also this bizarre connection to the casual eatery next door where rock music was quietly playing. These wooden vertical blind slats were the only separation between the two establishments, and the casual eatery’s rock music overlapped with the music playing in our sorta-fine-dining restaurant. Kinda dumb. Our server said they were supposed to “fix it” months ago by drywalling between the two rooms. But I guess they really couldn’t be bothered. Who cares, right? We’ll gouge the hell outta people that either have too much money or are here for the first time. No biggie, right?
So, good food but poor management and so-so service. I have pretty high expectations when I’m dropping a hundred bucks a plate for a meal. This place fell short – 100% due to front-of-the-house management failure.
Atmosphere and music were still excellent. Great vibe.
