Lucas Brothers, an iconic diner in the Columbus, IN community, founded by Pete & Lloyd Lucas, of Bloomington, IN. in 1937. They purchased two shops called Hinkle’s, located on the 4th and 5th block between Washington and Franklin St.. Pete sold the diner in 1963 and started a similar shop in Jonesville, IN called the Brick. Former owner/operator, Donna Cannon, purchased the diner in 1973 after working at the restaurant for over 20 years. The doors were closed in 2012 and reopened by Donna’s grandson and wife, William and Chrystal Broaddus in May of 2020. Although the restaurant has changed locations and a few owners over the years, they still carry on the same tradition of these delicious smash onion burgers. Same grill, same great taste!

I’ve not eaten meat in over eight years so I never thought I’d be able to experience Lucas Brothers. Yesterday while walking by I noticed they had a veggie burger. I knew I’d be here today for lunch! The guy who took our order was extremely friendly and helpful. I made sure to add the grilled onion to my veggie burger so it was more like the original burger that they are known for. The food was amazing! I told the person I was dining with that it reminded me of a diner I used to eat at when I was a kid back in the 60s and 70s. I will definitely become a regular customer.

You can watch them make your food. Super fresh, delicious, and great staff. A burger grilled on a bed of onions just does something to you. We WILL be back. Enjoy this amazing cheese pull pic from the cheese curds! WORTH IT.

sweet heavens this was an incredible burger. perfectly cooked to be nice and juicy, a toasty bun, and the grilled onions were a perfect touch. the fries were also perfectly crispy and hot! my wife is very picky about her burgers and she gave high praise for these, we’ll definitely be back! (Also they give you more fries than in the picture, i just couldn’t stop eating them before I got the picture.

We got the double patty melt, grilled chicken sandwich, and onion rings. The food was really greasy, but really good. It took longer than expected, about 20 minutes, for us to get our food after we ordered. I’d rather wait 20 minutes for a fresh burger than get a frozen patty any day. I HATE frozen burgers and these are definitely fresh not frozen. Cute little place.

The double cheese burger was ahhhhhhmazzzzing!!!! So flavorful! There was so much flavor in the burger/onions. The fries were cooked to perfection. We also got our food in a timely manner. We will be back 🙂

The hamburgers were ok, but they are different than they used to be! They used to have a smaller bun, were slightly smaller & greasier! I’ve gone to Lucas bros since they were located on 4th street. When your great or great- great grandmother worked there! So I do know these burgers& they weren’t the same! They were similar but not the same! Guess you give more because you must charge more? But I prefer the original burgers. Slightly disappointed!

Now I realized why Americans hate McDoxxxx while it’s quite popular in other countries. Their burgers are very simple and classic. The crinkle fries are only the ones can compete with Five Gxxx. It’s very crispy. I’m so glad that I found this hidden place!

The food is great. It’s fresh, so you will wait for it to cook. It’s hot and juicy and delicious. The onion rings are the best! Hot, crunchy and just the right amount of salt. You can call in your order if you’re in a hurry, or order and sit and relax in the booths. Add your own ketchup and mustard if you want it. The food has the right amount of grease to make it flavorful and tasty.

I think there’s confusion somewhere. I received an apology for receiving cold food and delay in receiving the food. This was not my experience. Food and service was great! I’ll be dining here again whenever in your area. I wish you were closer to Evansville.
