I’ve been around Luby’s but hadn’t ever eaten there until this evening. I always thought it was a one-price buffet, but that isn’t true. You buy an entree with sides and they are priced accordingly. Drinks, desserts, and additional sides are extra. I typically don’t buy fish to eat rather than catch it myself, but the presentation of their blackened Tilapia with a skewer of blackened shrimp was too much to ignore. With two sides and a roll, it was wonderful. Everyone in my group was very pleased with the selections available and with those they chose, so YES, I would recommend eating here. Servers were all friendly, but we had to request drink refills on three occasions instead of our server seeing the situation and responding. Overall, we had a good first experience, and I will eat here again.

We had a pretty frustrating experience at Luby’s. Communication with the staff was very difficult. Several employees do not speak English well, which became a real issue since we clearly said multiple times that we are vegetarian. The food was okay, but there was almost nothing that was truly meat-free. In 2026, that is hard to understand. Even the cheese enchiladas had meat on top, covered in sauce so you could not easily tell. We specifically asked three times while in line if they were vegetarian, and the woman serving them said yes each time. Once we sat down, we realized that was not true. The “vegetable” soup is made with beef broth, which defeats the point. The cabbage also had pork in it. We told staff more than once that we do not eat meat, yet no one bothered to point out which items were not vegetarian. What made it worse was what happened at checkout. Luby’s is cafeteria style. You grab your tray, go through the line, and carry your own food. It is not the kind of place where tipping is standard. Despite that, the cashier offered to give us cash back so we could tip the servers. Considering the fact that this is not a full service restaurant, it felt inappropriate to even suggest tipping.

We really like Lubys. I usually get a chicken fried steak, turkey and dressing, or the Angus Chopped Steak. On this date, I got the Chopped Steak, and it was, as usual, really good. I bought another to go to take back to my wife. Everything was good, and we will be back.

Come here and you can see why lubys are closing. From the service to the food. The moment we walked in the outwit glasses and a beard was first off not wearing a beard protector ( health hazard ) then to top it off he was extremely rude. But ok we really love lubys. So get further down the line to drinks the machine was almost empty. Except for cherry coke. So paid for this less then average food. And service. Then on top of it all Noone ever came to check on us had to refill own drinks. Overall experience was horrible want a great lubys with impeccable service go to location on mason

It was clean and the bussing staff were polite. However the serving staff just push you along and give you random stuff, and then don’t give you things you do select. Pricing is pretty hard to find so be ready to pah a random amount at the end. 30 dollars for one meal that has hot/cold food that taste nasty overall. Ended up throwing away everything except their brownie and country steak which were okay. May be good for elder individuals who can only eat bland food though.
