Food was above par- the pork knuckle was tender and smokey, delicious. It’s a small dining room, so it was loud and hard to have a conversation. The service was attentive at first, then we were forgotten about. Glad we did stop in, and the town is super adorable.

Went here twice. My wife (now) and I were in town getting married on 3/5.
First on 3/3/2026. Food was good service was decent. Smallish indoor eating area, but not bad. Had the bangers and mash and a dark and stormy. Sausage was a bit overcooked, mash was really good.
Second time was on 3/6/2026 around 1pm or so. Lady behind the bar said to seat ourselves and that was the ONLY interaction we had with any staff there. Other people came in after us were waited on and checked in with multiple times. The guy who was taking orders from the people who entered 5 minutes after us made eye contact with us a handful of times before we had enough time being ignored and walked out.
Got the “you’re not from around here and not welcome” vibes.

During our recent visit to The Lost Colony Restaurant in Mateo, my wife and kids sought refuge from the summer heat and enjoyed a delightful lunch.
We started with a Bavarian pretzel accompanied by beer cheese, which set the tone for a fantastic meal. The themed cheeseburgers we ordered were a hit, while the kids relished their choices of bangers and mash, grilled cheese, and a kids burger. I opted for the Irish Whiskey Burger, topped with signature bacon jam and Guinness beer cheese, and I can confidently say it was the best burger I’ve had in a long time.
The service was exceptional; our waitress was incredibly accommodating, even providing a highchair for our youngest. Overall, it was a memorable dining experience filled with delicious food and attentive service.

Uninspiring menu, but it’s a tavern. We had a beer there, it wasn’t good like the lines haven’t been cleaned in a while, but the bartender was nice and helpful.
We visited on April 16, so that was in the middle of their beer line cleaning cycle. That sort of explains the beer taste.

On a recent beautiful outing to Manteo, we had the chance to stop at the Lost Colony Tavern. We chose to sit at the bar and start off by having a flight of Lost Colony Brews. We were not disappointed with the sampling and soon ordered a larger version of our favorite. They had a display of multiple types of pickled eggs. My husband who cannot turn down deviled eggs happily tried different flavors. We each had a soft pretzel which could easily be split between two people and were almost too stuffed to eat our burgers. Somehow we survived and managed to make room for more the food was great! The atmosphere fun, and comfortable. Enjoyed sitting at the bar and talking with locals and soaking up the laid back feeling in this small waterfront town . Would highly recommend stopping in for one of their brews, a pretzel and if you have room, their dishes are great, then set off to walk around the town and help you burn some calories. Cannot wait to go back!

Amazing food, great beer and drink selections, terrific service! We had several dishes in our group that were delicious. The scotch egg was an outstanding surprise! This is a must try! Guinness stew was tender and flavorful. Fish and chips were fresh and perfectly cooked. Oysters were done to perfection. Beer flight and ales were very very good! And available for purchase next door! We did ! The sticky pudding was also very good and a perfect finish to a delicious meal! This is one of those places I wish was close to home because it would be a favorite. But now we will just have to wait till next year to go back and plan a few meals here!

We had a girls trip down to Manteo, NC yesterday and had lunch at The Lost Colony Tavern. This comfort food was amazing! They were decked out for St. Patrick’s day and there was a special St. Paddy’s Day menu as well. We started with an order of fries and OMG…these were the BEST fries I have ever had in my life!! I got to try Scotch Eggs for the first time (delicious!). The Dublin Coddle, Guinness Stew are “comfort in a bowl!” The Full Irish Breakfast was a MASSIVE quantity of food and did not dissapoint! The (winner of the 2023 Outer Banks shrimp cook-off) Dublin Lawyer shrimp in a whiskey cream sauce was amazing. There are cool tee-shirts for sale that change every season.
You can walk off your meal with a visit to the Shallowbag Bay lighthouse or walk around the Elizabethan Gardens.
