Los Vaqueros Mexican Restaurant is the kind of place that delivers exactly what you hope for when you sit down for Mexican food: fresh flavors, generous portions, and a welcoming atmosphere. From the moment we arrived, the restaurant stood out for how clean and well kept everything was, from the dining area to the table settings. It immediately set a good tone for the meal.
The service was excellent. Dora took care of us, and she struck the right balance between being attentive and giving us space to enjoy our meal. She was friendly, quick to respond, and always had a genuine smile, which made the experience feel relaxed and comfortable rather than rushed.
The food itself was outstanding. The chips were fresh and crisp, and the salsa had a bright, fresh flavor that made it hard to stop snacking. The guacamole tasted freshly prepared, with good texture and seasoning. When the main dishes arrived, they were served hot and sizzling, which added to both the presentation and the flavor. The fajitas were well seasoned, and everything tasted fresh rather than heavy or overcooked. The rice, beans, and sides complemented the meal well and were clearly made with care.
Overall, Los Vaqueros delivers on all the essentials: great food, a clean and inviting environment, and excellent service. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to come back, whether for a casual meal or to bring friends and family.

Love this place! Great food and service. Servers are all very nice, and the food comes out very quickly. Usually not much of a wait time, but if there is, it is normally only about 15-20 minutes max. Portions are decently sized, and the overall quality of the food is good. It is always fresh, and I have had multiple different things from there. My favorite is the Los Vaqueros Tacos, but many others love their enchiladas. It is a go-to for my family and I, and anytime we are all together, we always go here to grab a bite. The atmosphere is welcoming, and while it is a bit cramped in there, you can still have conversations with people without it being too overwhelming and loud. Food is also fairly priced, especially in relation to other restaurants in Highlands. Overall, a personal favorite of mine. Definitely worth going and giving it a try!

My wife and I had dinner here tonight and it was absolutely delicious. Everything tastes authentic and the service was very quick and the prices were very very reasonable. Will definitely be coming back here the next time we are in Highlands. Highly recommend.

Excellent food!! It was a delicious lunch spot after a day of a morning of hiking. I had the birria quesadilla tacos and they were delicious. Tender meat, crispy cheese, great seasoning. Loved the pickled veggies that came with the meal. Good cut.for the richness. Really great spot! Good, smokey salsa. Crispy chips. Great queso.

This place is a 10/10!!! The staff is very friendly and super accommodating (which was a nice add on especially dining with kids). I didn’t get the name of the hostess from Saturday afternoon but she was a sweetheart. Our waiter was attentive, prompt and very polite. The food was fresh and delicious! Everyone in my party was extremely satisfied with their meals and drinks, not one complaint. I would most definitely recommend this place and come back to eat when in the area!

5 stars across the board! As a foodie who has lived many places and traveled extensively around the world, this is, in my opinion, the best and most authentic Mexican restaurant in the area. The service was impeccable and I was immediately greeted and taken care of by the owner, Ivan, and the entire staff. From beginning to end, the food was incredible. Everything is made in house and fresh from scratch. I kicked things off with a Gummy Bear Margarita (so, so good!). I also enjoyed Chips & Salsa with Cheese Dip to start. For my entree I ordered the Chicken Fajitas, and these were hands down some of the best fajitas I have ever had! Check out my pictures of all of the above and you’ll see for yourself. I can’t say enough about how good the food. The mix of flavors is mouth watering. I promise you cannot go wrong here. If you’re in the Highlands area, and love Mexican food, definitely take the time to visit this restaurant. I promise you won’t regret it and be sure to tell Ivan hello! Be sure to check out my photos!

Very small Mexican place on the outskirts of downtown Highlands. Very busy on a Monday night, had about a 15 minute wait to be seated. It’s pretty limited seating inside. They do have a couple tables on the front deck but it was way too cold to eat outside.
Our party enjoyed our meals. Chips & Salsa, Queso and Fajitas were excellent.
Would return.

Michelle was amazing! She always made sure we had what we needed but wasn’t overbearing. She was so sweet to our newborn baby that we brought in and made us feel so special! We got the enchiladas and the tres tacos vaqueros and they were delicious!! The margaritas were awesome and the mix tasted homemade. Highly recommend!
