Today I asked my daughter to drive by, not really expecting anything, but to my surprise — they were open!! From a distance I could see the OPEN flags flying, and that alone made my day.
Why was I this excited? Because I was never able to catch their taco truck when it was open due to the limited schedule, and I had been waiting for this place to open so I could finally try their famous machetes.
As I walked in, I was directed to a table and told someone would take my order. I could tell they are still adjusting to the new restaurant setup, so I just sat patiently and enjoyed the moment.
We ordered horchata and started with their chips and salsa. I did look at the menu, but honestly, I already knew why I was there — I came for a machete, so my decision was made before I even sat down.
While we waited, I went to check the bathrooms. They were clean and smelled good. A bit cramped, but nothing bad at all.
Back at the table, our drinks arrived, and they were really good. The horchata was perfectly sweet, just the way it should be.
I ordered the junior machete, and instead of picking one myself, I asked the waitress to suggest their most popular one. She recommended the bistec con nopales with salsa, and I could tell by her smile that this was a solid choice.
Now here’s just a small suggestion. For those of us who can’t eat dairy or too many carbs, it would be awesome if you could offer a low-carb tortilla or non-dairy cheese options. I really enjoyed the machete, but my body might make me pay for it later… ouch.
It did take a little while for the food to come out, but I wasn’t upset at all. That’s normal for a place that just opened and is still finding its rhythm.
When the food arrived, the machete looked great. Definitely big enough for one person. I did find myself thinking it would be nice if it came with a small side of beans or something — just so the machete doesn’t look lonely on the plate.
By the end of the meal, I felt full, but not overly full, and not hungry either — just right. Satisfied. Ahhh…
I’m really looking forward to coming back more often, especially since I live less than five minutes away.
One question — will you be offering alcohol in the future? And will the covered patio be open for seating eventually?
Gracias for the great meal!
