I’m Mexican, so maybe my opinion counts a little extra here. The birria, al pastor, and chorizo tacos were great. If you like spicy food, ask for their hot salsa.

People at my table had huaraches with chorizo and nachos supreme with birria, and everyone loved their food. The horchata was sweet and delicious.

The service might be a little slower than in other places, but you can tell the food is made with care, and it’s totally worth it. If you go for anything with chorizo or birria, you can’t go wrong 🙂

This place was great! The three tacos were, were simple, yet delicious and authentic! Just as I thought I was done the Taco Salad Bowl, it came with a nice surprise of beans underneath! The actual bowl tasted great as well! The service was good, had a kind waiter and food came in a timely fashion! It had a warm, authentic family vibe. Did I mention you can eat the bowl?

The food was impeccable, the service the first time I went was met with confusion when ordering a vegan meal. The second and third time there was a different group of staff who helped me tremendously as I was not aware the guac was made without dairy. I tasted off to me still. Personally I love the cabbage bean tacos that are vegan. The way the cabbage is so finely sliced is quite incredible. props to the chef for making such a soothing experience.

My table by window is always clean, seats are ripped and worn. I don’t like that, as a content creator and a professional model I like to have things more put together.

Last but not least, none of the sauces are spicy enough for me. I am disappointed in their hot sauce collection but it’s Vermont, where majority of people don’t like/can’t handle spice so what can you do? lol I’ll just bring my own next time I remember!

I really didn’t have my hopes up too high, Vermont is great, but its not known for its Mexican cuisine. I was in for quite a surprise. First came the free chips and salsa. The salsa here is more like a Lizano style Costa Rican sauce than the thicker salsas. I love this type of salsa and it was incredible with just the right amount of heat. The menu isn’t as big as you see at other place and the prices were very inexpensive, so I imagined the portion size would be smaller. Nope! I ordered the Molcajete because I thought it would be a smaller size considering the price, it came out sizzling in an enormous Molcajete mortar – is that the correct term? Steak, shrimp, cactus, chicken and chorizo along with peppers and green onion. It was absolutely marvelous and, quite honestly, the best Molcajete that I’ve ever had.
I cant possibly recommend this establishment, and that dish specifically, enough.
The server was polite and attentive without being over bearing. When the bill came, the option to scan and pay was available.
I wish I lived closer, if I did, Los Jeff’s would become a frequent stop for me.

Finally—*real* Mexican food in Vermont. Anyone who’s lived or traveled outside the state knows how hard it is to find authentic Mexican cuisine up here, so this place is a welcome surprise. The flavors are bold and genuine, the ingredients taste fresh, and nothing feels watered down to “Vermont standards.” Everything we tried was excellent, from the seasoning to the portions, and the service was friendly and welcoming. If you’ve been searching for authentic Mexican food in the St. Albans area, this is the spot. Highly recommend.

We waited a long time to try this place as locals. I had read SO many polarizing reviews since they opened, we just weren’t in a hurry.

The space is still relatively new and they’re clearly still working on some aspects, not an issue. Currently, it still feels very awkward and not very welcoming, I don’t doubt this aesthetic might shift once they get further along from the shift in location.

Service was just…okay. A younger woman didn’t greet us, just asked if we were two, and told us to sit anywhere. She barely looked at us and spoke so quietly I could hardly hear her when I asked a question about a menu item. Not rude, by any means, but not warm, welcoming, or what I would define as particularly friendly.

Most importantly, the food. I started with the horchata, which was exactly what I expected and very good. We tried the carnitas Huaraches to start. They were soft and well topped, but apart from the sour cream, there was no flavor but the beans, maybe. I tried a piece of the meat separately and it had absolutely no flavor, very bland. We got the quesabirria and my partner was very excited to try the pozole, one of his favorite dishes from when he lived in New Mexico. The quesabirria was, again, just okay. They were nice and schmelty, cheesy, but the meat and consume had almost no flavor until I added a solid amount of salt and the green salsa (which was delicious) to them. It tasted almost like they just stretched all the ingredients by watering them down. The pozole was a big disappointment. While the large portion was more than my partner could have eaten, he gave up after less than half. There was very little flavor, only a few fine shreds of meat and PILE of hominy – too much, undercooked hominy to meat ratio. He tried to add salt, but the broth also had a very strong, perfume taste. The toppings he received were also scant to say the least. One. Single. Slice of radish, a pinch of lettuce shreds and some chili powder dashed on the plate.

We both agreed we would try again, making totally different menu choices, because everyone deserves two chances. This first impression, however was pretty disappointing. For the value and the flavor, we both agreed we’d gladly drive the extra 20 minutes to Casa Real.

Very bland food. I can cook way better Mexican food. Zero Spice. No cumin used, no garlic used, no slow cooked shredded chicken. They used a dried out crumbled chicken for chimichangas. No handmade tortillas. Store bought. Fajitas came with no grilled jalapenos. The young white girl wouldn’t check up on the customers. Maybe she was shy. The Lady in the back came back and took my drink order for a Tamarind Jarritos because waiter girl didn’t understand what the drink was. The Atmosphere was great. Love the plants in the front. Tables were set beautifully. Spanish rice was bland, you can add cilantro onion or tomato and red peppers bits to it for flavor. Watery salsa came with the chips and salsa. Not enough salsa for 4 chips. Salsa needs to be chunky in a Molcajete Bowl. I grew up cooking and eating Authentic Mexican Food in Texas and New Mexico so this might be enough flavor for Vermont. I hadn’t tried their other dishes yet. The beans were perfect

Overall some of the best Mexican I have had in New England. For just opening, the menu was appropriately sized. Looking forward to the additions on the menu. Will definitely return. Once Margaritas are added I will review again as a good Margarita is hard to find.

The chicken mole was the best! Service was very friendly. Even though they close at 8:30 pm they accommodated our table of 4 at 8:30.
