We started with the Moo Tod. These fried Thai marinated pork strips dusted with fried garlic were addicting to munch on. With the Jaew sauce for dipping, they were perfect. I loved the heat of the Jaew sauce, perfect in both flavor and spice level – leaving you with just a bit of residual warmth in your core.
For mains, my partner had the Pad Seaw, with chicken, and with those house-made wide noodles. It was a perfect presentation of this classic, and the noodles were fantastic.
Meanwhile, I ordered the Kao Soi Gai (Chiangmai curry noodle soup with chicken, egg noodle, red onion, bean sprout, pickled mustard green, crispy noodles). This was exceptional, and I have no notes. It was so flavorful, and jam-packed with noodles. The spice level left me with a similar internal warmth to the Jaew sauce.
I want to give a shoutout to our excellent server, whose name I did not get, but who saved our dinner. I came in knowing I wanted to have some curry. I had settled on the Gang Keaw Wan Gai (green curry chicken). Our server was quick to make sure I was aware that this was the spiciest thing on the menu. This was helpful, as I didn’t want my head to blow off. So, I pivoted to the curry noodle soup, and ordered it mild (per her recommendation) – which is probably more like a medium/hot to an American palette, and was exactly what I was looking for.
To finish, we got the black rice custard dessert. I have added a picture, which makes if look pretty good, but it tasted even better than it looked. I recommend that you save room for this, even if it means leaving some of your dinner to be packed into leftovers.
All of the staff were excellent and very kind. I should note, though, that service was a touch slow. Not lackadaisical, just not super attentive. It took a while to get orders in, get spoons for dessert, get the check, etc. This doesn’t warrant any less than five stars for me, though. It definitely meant we didn’t feel rushed. We visited on a jam-packed Saturday night, which is sure to make for a lot to do for a team of folks at a place like Long Grain. I mention this all in the hopes that someone might catch this review and have their expectations set to find a more leisurely pace at Long Grain, and not try to jam in a meal here against other adjacent items on the schedule.
I hope to come back soon to Long Grain!
It is truly a splurge for us, at this season in our life, to grab takeout for a celebration, which we did last week.
We both ordered pad thai one star, with one pork belly and one chicken.
I checked over the ingredients on the menu to make sure they are suitable to my allergies, and they should be fine.
My husband picked up and paid there, it was a 40 minute wait from my phone call, I called at 4pm.
He brought home our dinner and it had almost no flavor, almost no spice,it was dry, and for some reason it was full of tofu.
Did I order tofo? No. Was it in both of our meals? Yes
I called to complain and I was told I could drive all the way back to town to get a new meal, but we are too far away.
Why was tofu in our bland meals? We will never know. I ate the food completely, merely because we had spent our hard earned money on it.
I will never order here again.
We came from Iowa and on our last day they were booked, the On my way! we was doing her best to fit us in when we got there at 8.
Lovely spicy broth followed by a delicious and super flavorful green curry with local chicken. Oh, the desserts were spectacular too! Sorry, I destroyed mussels and curry and we demolished the desserts too before I could get pictures!
Had the mussels, is a must ..
Pad Thai was average.
I am going to review this as someone who loves spicy food and crave it. We ordered the special appetizer for the night the deep fried pork wontons, Chicken Pad Thai, and another special not on the menu that had ribeye in it.
The Pork Wontons – Fantastic, beautifully crafted and fried. Great flavor.
Chicken Pad Thai – Very good! I told the waitress I wanted it to be as spicy as possible and she said that the chefs kinda take that as a challenge and I said that’s fine with me. The spice was perfectly what I wanted. A nice slow building burn that kept me coming back for more. Any more spice and it wouldn’t have been as enjoyable to consume. They called the spice level “Thai Spice” for anyone that wants to try it.
The Ribeye Broth special – My wife loved it! She also ordered it “spicy” and they delivered a nice building spice that she enjoyed. She would’ve ordered Thai Spice if she would’ve known that was an option. I want to point out that the dish was so full of ribeye. I was genuinely impressed with the amount of meat.
The table next made several comments about how spicy the food was lol. I don’t know what people expect it’s Thai food… After we finished eating we realized that there is definitely a reason that place is packed all the time. Would highly recommend this place.
