Quick way to grab the historic brownie attributed to this location. They have a small sign depicting some of the brownie origin story along with individually wrapped brownies. Great way to try this famous initial iteration of a ubiquitous dessert without too much of a production.
Brownie was good! It’s not as sweet as today’s versions, but it was really fun to try something so historic. Definitely tastes like an older recipe. The hotel itself provides a beautiful backdrop.

Brownie (the Palmer Hotel originated them) was disgusting and any cheap cake mix would be better. Paid cash, and the angry cashier did not even bother to give me change. However, it located in a beautiful hotel lobby, where there was a nice doorman and nice maitre’d.

Located inside the historic Palmer House Hotel, the Lockwood Express is perfect if you don’t have time to sit down and enjoy the Palmer house restaurant but still want to experience their historic brownie.

If you don’t have time to wait, this location provides an acceptable alternative. You get more complete meals at the restaurant, but they are not necessarily equivalent. An egg any way at the restaurant for $5, or 2 hard boiled eggs at Express for $3. Also, yogurt parfait with extra fresh fruit $13, but in the Express only yogurt a few berries and granola for $9. You can get warmed breakfast sandwiches and custom coffee drinks. Fast, tasty hot chocolate in the evening when you don’t want bar prices but want to enjoy live entertainment in the lobby.

Fast service and decent food. The only negative is that some of the chips on display were already past the Best By dates and are all slightly pricey. I do like that the original recipe brownies are there for everyone to buy and try!
The evening attendant, who happened to have the same name as me, Stephanie is super nice! She is pleasant, and does her best to accommodate.

Stopped by to pick up the Palmer House brownie while I was killing time in Chicago. It’s a very intetesting brownie. Nothing like the classic brownie we all know, but still very delicious. It melts in your mouth. Expensive though. $8 as of 2025.

Echoing the review of a previous poster. Barely found the Express store that sells the brownie, no signs or info that we could find. The server was rude and seemed annoyed that we didn’t include a tip for self service at the counter. Happy that we tried the famous brownie but it was overrated and current recipes are much more refined and tasteful. This brownie is basically goop, too moist and bland overall.

Tried to order room service from the website, would not allow me to complete the order because of a website glitch. We down and asked to place the order in person and was told to go to the restaurant. Told the person. That the site wasn’t working and that I wanted to order food for my room and was told to wait and someone would come get my order. 15 minutes later still no server. I went back to get express counter and was accused of not placing the order. Told them again that the website wasn’t working. Gave in a bought a Farmville and coffee. This Farmville tastes like it was made 3 days ago and the coffee is Luke warm at best.
Do yourself a favor, if the site isn’t working and you have time, go to the restaurant and eat in. Just be prepared for a long wait and zero customer service by the servers there too.

I work in the building, and since post-covid return to loop I have skipped Starbucks and gotten my morning coffee here. The entire staff has been there for YEARS and are true hospitality – they bend over backwards, hustle, and are kind. Coffee is smooth, and the mix in station has plenty of options. The breakfast sandwiches and pastries are all handmade in house! To me, this was one of the smartest and best build ins for The Palmer House!

Lockwood Express is a grab-and-go spot located just off the lobby of the historic Palmer House Hilton. I recently swung by and grabbed a bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich on a toasted ciabatta roll, paired with a fresh fruit cup. The sandwich was packed with flavor, and the fruit was a refreshing touch. All that set me back about $15, which I thought was fair for the quality and convenience. Whether you’re staying at the hotel or just passing through the Loop, Lockwood Express is a solid choice for a quick, tasty bite.
