Lockhart is the barbecue capital of Texas. If you’re going to have barbecue in Lockhart it better be darn good. I had the brisket which was OK didn’t have much of a smoky flavor. The turkey was very good. The salad and the coleslaw were OK and the beans were pretty good. Being in the barbecue capital of Texas, you expect the best and this was just average BBQ. There are too many other excellent barbecue places in Lockhart. I would not recommend this one. What I will give them credit for is a great place to meet and three sides for $13.99 which for barbecue is really good.

I cannot say enough about Chisholm trail BBQ. The food was hot and delicious, the customer service was amazing and it did not only raise the bar, they are the bar. They had every side any of my family could ask for. The portions of meat were very fulfilling. Thank you for making us feel at home. Next time I am in Lockhart, we will be back.

My husband and I decided to try this place out on our way home from Austin. He got the turkey sandwich and pinto beans. I ordered the chopped beef sandwich and macaroni salad. It took the drive thru attendant 6 times to get my order correct. She obviously didn’t understand English. The turkey sandwich had more lettuce on it than anything else, the pinto beans were overly salted, the macaroni salad was drowning in mayonnaise and the chopped beef sandwich tasted like ground up beef jerky with bbq sauce.

My husband and I both got plates. You get to choose your sides (3), and there are a lot of sides to choose from. I had the smoked turkey with potato salad, green pea salad, and sauerkraut. The turkey was good and so were the sides. The sauerkraut was delicious! My husband had the brisket with fried okra, mashed potatoes and country gravy, and the broccoli salad. This is ny far the best brisket we’ve had. The sides were good, but the broccoli salad was mediocre. They are, also, serving fish during lent.

Likely the only BBQ spot on the famous BBQ Trail with a Drive Thru! Love this about them. The service is always fast and friendly and the brisket and sausage sandwich is always consistent. They are definitely the most convenient BBQ stop in Lockhart

Been working in Lockhart all week and have stopped in twice, got a 2 meat plate with brisket and Turkey.. it comes with THREE sides for only $12. Absolutely FANTASTIC BBQ, right up there with Smoliks as the best BBQ I’ve had in Texas. Where they really won me over was the fish plate! Best catfish and slaw I’ve EVER had. Same thing, 3 sides included for $12. I spend more than that at McDonald’s. Will be back every time I come through town.

Welcome to one of the best barbecue joints in Texas. I first noticed this spot due to the long lines waiting to order from the drive through, every time I passed through Lockhart. You always hear about Lockhart BBQ, primarily because of the more tourist focused operations near downtown. But did you ever wonder where all the local Lockhart BBQ lovers go? They hit up the Chisholm Trail! As I mentioned, the drive through is always busy, so I usually take the time to dine inside. This is a cafeteria style ordering operation, grab a tray and load up on desired sides while placing your meat order. The folks here are very friendly and down to earth, and will answer all your questions. The best side in my opinion is their potato salad, which sets a standard for ingredients, texture and taste… the classic accompaniment for brisket! On this visit, I ordered a fresh chopped brisket sandwich with the moist cut. Pro-tip – Get a fresh chop so you can add your own amount of sauce, keeps the sandwich from getting too soggy! The ribs are great too! Next time you are in Lockhart Texas, skip the tourist traps and give Chisholm Trail a try for some true local color!

Chisholm Trail BBQ catered the food for my mothers Celebration of Life/funeral. They did an amazing job. Great service, very professional, great food and great price too. Highly recommend them. Brianna is who we dealt with and she was so friendly and helpful through the whole process.

Best in Lockhart! I know they got the big fancy ones you could go to and they say they’ve been doing it for a hundred years and they charge like they’ve been doing it for 200 years Way too proud of the salty brisket they have. Way too proud of the price. And I just don’t like to eat in any of the other barbecue restaurants in Lockhart because they’re all feuding family members. And I mean they are feuding they hate each other. And so I just don’t want to be involved in that You can feel it in the atmosphere You can taste it in the food. But here at Chisholm trail I mean my goodness it’s a loving family a whole bunch of friends and they work really hard to put this together at half of the price of the other restaurants in town. And the food is just as good but with more variety. And if you haven’t had to beef ribs at Chisholm then you’re missing out.
