We love to support local businesses but we’re going to have to pick and choose how we continue to support this one. I’m sorry but two sandwiches and two ala carte sides should not cost $52. We’ve tolerated their price hike a couple of years ago like so many of us did during the pandemic but this is just unfair. I can get an open face Ruben which doubles the portion if this sandwich pictured in any diner and that would probably come slathered in sauerkraut melted cheese and dressing with a side of fries and cold slaw AND a pickle. What I got for $16.25 was a pretty lame sandwich. The pastrami was cut too thick, cheese and sauerkraut left a lot more to be desired. My wife’s also ordered off the special board. She got a turkey sloppy Joe. That was $17 and the bread wasn’t even toasted. It was just a deli sandwich you can buy at Brennan’s in long branch with cold slaw a a pickle for under $15 every day of the week. I’ve always felt the prices for take out food at local smoke was over priced but ok it’s barbecue and slow cooked meat can get expensive these days. But today I stopped making excuses for this business. This place is out to get ya. They will purposely price gouge us on most items. That almost might be tolerable when the food is dynamite but it’s upsetting when it’s not, especially after you just blew $52 on two sandwiches and had to pay extra for sides. We won’t order that ever again. In fact we have to be very cautious about ordering there in the future. Tonight was blatantly a ripoff. I don’t care how they try to justify it. It feels like we got hustled.

I rarely leave a review but this was one of the most overpriced and disappointing meals I’ve had in a long time.

The $17 Turkey Sloppy Joe on rye — advertised as a daily special — was anything but special. The bread wasn’t even toasted. The cheese slice wasn’t melted. It tasted completely bland and uninspired, like something thrown together with zero care. For $17, that’s unacceptable.

My wife’s $16.25 Classic Reuben pastrami sandwich was at least toasted, but it was just as underwhelming in flavor. Nothing that justified the price.

We spent $51.45 on what should have been a satisfying dinner and instead walked out feeling ripped off. There’s a difference between charging premium prices and delivering premium quality but today Local Smokes did not come close.

Advertising something as a “daily special” sets an expectation. What we received felt lazy, overpriced, and not worth anywhere near what we paid.

Extremely disappointing.

What makes this even more frustrating is that I’ve had much better food here in the past, which makes this experience feel like a serious drop in quality.

Had to go back a second day for the chopped Brisket sandwich, it was great. I was not in love with the red bank location, but this one was the way a bbq place should be. Not pretty inside, not decorated outsode, just good bbq food. The beans were also excellent!!! The only place with better bbq beans is mostly smoked on rt9. But the chopped Brisket at this location is really really good. Not priced too bad… not crazy about the mac and cheese but everyone has their different mac and cheese style, and besides all you need is the baked beans and the chpped Brisket.

This location was recommended to us by a local resident from another business. It’s unfortunate that this area doesn’t seem to have great bbq. This location was convenient to get to from our beach house, so we went for dinner around 530. Upon arrival it was a no frills location which is expected for bbq!

I ordered the 2 meats/ 2 sides(brisket, pulled pork and double fries). The brisket was super dry and didn’t seem to be smoked but rather oven baked. The pulled pork was tender and had good flavor but not very warm. The fries were the highlight of the meal(thin, salty and crispy).

My fiancée ordered the chopped brisket and pulled pork. The chopped brisket was so dry and tough. The bbq sauce had some flavor, vinegary and an okay sweetness.

Workers were attentive and friendly. Parking available in a lot. Hopefully this was an off day. We spent $85 and might have been given $20 worth of food. I wouldn’t return. Hoping the next time we come down, we’re able to find good bbq!

The food we ordered was really good. The host (cashier) was so helpful because we never been there before. The atmosphere was very nice and quiet.

Pulled Pork was amazing with their Carolina Style BBQ sauce! Cornbread was the perfect texture! The vibes + music were immaculate!

Generally, the staff is very helpful and the food is delicious. Menu pricing can be a bit confusing. And during this recent visit, the young hostess appeared irked and “ready to clock out.”

I’ve loved this place since I started eating there in 2018.
Sweet Chili wings…. favorite.
Definitely recommend getting their catfish when available. I don’t even like fish. Their greens taste like someone’s Nana made em all day ….. with love. I don’t think I ever ate a bad thing here. And I believe they’ve had one of the same cooks there for a while…. which definitely means something today.

We ordered 2 full racks of the St Louis ribs which were dry, tough and could not be eaten. Unfortunately, we threw a lot of it away. We came years ago and it was really good then. We made the approximate 35 minute drive each way and paid over $83 (including tax) for terrible food. I regret paying so much money for a meal that could not be eaten. Obviously, we’re not going back.
