Traveling through SC we discovered this great restaurant for homey food!! They have small plates available for those with smaller appetites as well as full size plates for those with a hearty appetite. It can be a challenge for me to eat well without wasting food when traveling. So, I especially appreciate the small plate options. We stopped there on our outgoing trip, and then again on our homeward trip. I highly recommend.

Great home cooking kind of place. Very friendly service and nice food. I had the soup and it was ok, but my friend had the flounder and that was amazing!!! I normally smother my fish with tartar sauce but this didn’t really need any. I would definitely come back fir that next time I’m here.

Yesterday I stopped by Lizard’s Thicket for dinner and decided to try their “Famous Salad with Chicken”. Unfortunately, it was very disappointing.
Their menu description of the salad: Large tossed salad with a baked or fried chicken breast, carrots, red cabbage, and tomatoes, all on a bit of crisp lettuce.
For $12+, I expected a better quality salad (the lettuce wasn’t fresh and some pieces were already starting to brown) and a reasonable portion of chicken, but what I received was underwhelming… and the chicken was cold. (Picture attached for reference.) I was expecting a freshly baked chicken breast or at least a warm chicken breast and not one that was dry, cold and appeared to be leftover from the day before.
I’ve visited this location several times in the past, but as of late I have noticed a steady decline not only in food quality but also in customer service and wait times. Considering how long I waited for this salad to be prepared, the end result was highly disappointing and not worth the price.
This used to be a go-to spot for breakfast and dinner. I will be seeking other options in the future.

I use to be a regular at this location everyday, but not anymore. Have not been here since November 2024. Will not go back. I waited a while to be served. Finally, Carolyn, who was not my waitress asked me what I wanted to drink. And brought me my tea. Then I waited for some more time. Finally, Jamie came up and said that we got you cooking. And I waited for some time longer. Finally, Carolyn came back around and asked me if I had gotten my food. I responded with a no. Finally, my breakfast bowl arrived. This is what I order every day. When I approached the register, Sue asked me if everything was ok and I proceeded to tell her about my experience and wait time and Courtney, my regular and favorite waitress, told Sue that it was her fault because she thought Jamie was taking care of me and Jamie thought that Courtney was taking care of me. Sue proceeded to tell Courtney that the next time that I come in to pay for my meal. Well, first of all, I will not go back to that Lizards Thicket and second of all, none of us are promised tomorrow. And I had not paid yet so Sue could have credited me with a free meal. I waited 55 minutes to receive my breakfast bowl. Ridiculous. And if Carolyn hadn’t of assisted me, I would still be waiting on the food that I ordered every single day

Lizard’s Thicket is a must visit for my son when he returns home. We have been eating at several of the Lizard’s Thicket for over 30 years in Columbia. This visit did not disappoint. The service was excellent and timely. The food was hot and delicious as usual. Today, we ordered fried flounder, cole slaw, candied yams, fried Okra, and tasty mac n cheese, rolls, and ice tea. The food is reasonably priced.

The chicken and waffles was AWESOME! Hand breaded, perfectly cooked fried chicken, WOW. We also had the baked chicken salad which was good. We had the hamburger steak with onions and mushrooms, fries were crinkle cut, all was great. Lastly ordered the baked chicken thigh with alabam slaw and macaroni and cheese, everything was super great and homemade. Now we understand why there was so many take out orders going out while we were there.

Gave it a 1 because the put Green Beans instead of Mac n Cheese on my husband’s plate. I wanted Fried Chicken on mine and it tasted Baked and dried out. When I went back the guy at the counter was like ” Like I tell customers they should check their order before leaving ” NO I watched the lady bagging it check my order then put the receipt in the bag. Why did she catch the mistakes? Will not be returning to this store. Will go to 1 of the other 2 around town.
