Liz Modern Asian is a MUST! My son and I tried out LMA last Sunday for lunch. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by Liz. We sat down with our menus. Liz took our order of shrimp noodles and orange chicken. In about 10 minutes my dish came out but also another dish of noodles that Liz’s husband brought out to us “on the house”. OHMYGOODNESS! The shrimp was cooked to perfection! The noodles were al dente. While I started on my dish my son ate bites from the other bowl of noodles that also had a great amount of beef and chicken. I really enjoyed the green beans too. We must’ve had about 2-3 bites and my son’s orange chicken came out with a side of steamed rice. OK, we’ve had orange chicken before but Liz’s orange chicken is SERIOUSLY the BEST my son and I have ever had!!! If we could give Liz Modern Asian 10 stars we would! The portion sizes were enough to feed 3-4 people. We tried to eat everything but couldn’t. We ended up with take home boxes. While we waited for the bill and boxes…Liz came out with two more boxes filled with more food! Beef empanadas, steamed pork potstickers and fried pork potstickers! The empanadas were so flaky and delicious! The steamed potsticker wrapping had the perfect amount of chewiness and the filling was so savory. I brought the fried potstickers home for my husband and he enjoyed them! The food was excellent, the restaurant clean, and Liz and hubby so sweet, accommodating, and so giving! Oh, and the food is made to order! My son and I can’t wait to go back!

One of the finest Asian/Chinese restaurants I have ever been to!
Last eve I had my first dinner @ this place and I will be a regular. Everything was made to order and preparation & ingredients were delicious! Prices were so affordable!
Spring rolls were so tasty & fried to perfection!
Fried chicken tenders in bao buns were so tasty.
Wanton/noodle soup was huge & broth was obviously home-made and rivaled my “Jewish-penicillin” generations old recipe.
I can’t wait to get back & try the many stir-fried entrees.
Mahalo nui loa Liz for an excellent meal and for being my neighborhood favorite!
Please give it a try – tell them Bob (with one O) sent you!!

Az restaurant week lunch special: I was surprised the 7 course lunch special was per couple, even though you can get for one i asked for two so i could take to go. $44 per couple $22/single

Only restaurant listed as Chinese cuisine on azrestuarantweek website. Has both lunch and dinner specials posted. Started with brisket noodles, next was chicken empanadas, Chinese salad, brisket buns, chicken fried rice, dumplings and finished with green tea ice cream, unfortunately phone died. Excellent service, no wait, hostess also came out to check on diners. Food was hot and freshly prepared. I was pleasantly surprised by empanadas which were, for me, a new item at Chinese restaurant, usually see this for Cuban and Mexican cuisine. Everything that was fried was done well and there was nice texture and crisp to vegetables. Something in the rice had this little crunch that i liked, i wonder if it was sprinkled over the top or just part of the cooking. The ice cream was top notch immediately I knew it was authentic matcha, when inquired about the source, the server confirmed what i already knew imported directly from Japan. Not likely will you get this quality of ingredients at this price. Not to mention the portions were enough for 4, i ate twice and took two plates to my neighbor. Note that i only promote and thumbs up positive experience… this business has my stamp of approval. #chinesecuisines #azrestaurantweek w###

Home is wherever @lizmodernasian is!

Thank you Liz & Howard for your unmatched hospitality, unreal flavors, and Michelin-level quality every time.

We came hungry, and started with steaming edamame, dumplings, and tempura shrimp (the holy trinity)

The cashew chicken & veggies is my go-to lighter option – but this visit, the steamed bao buns stole the show – melt-in-your-mouth perfection.

Liz even brought out seaweed so we could roll our own sushi – something I wouldn’t have thought to order… now I’m fully obsessed!

The dish that officially tops my list though: Liz’s Lo Mein Noodles combo with chicken, pork, & beef. I’ve never tasted anything like it – dangerously addictive.

10/10 experience. Always. And strolling around the beautiful @scottsdalequarter afterward is the perfect way to end the evening.

Counting down til my next visit!

Had a truly excellent meal at Liz Modern Asian when I was traveling to Scottsdale. We were shopping at the new Lego store across the street and jumped in about an hour before they closed. Not being a huge fan of chain restaurants, we were delighted to find that this was a family-owned establishment.

The food was excellent and Liz herself came out to chat with us to make sure that everything lived up to our expectations. They even brought out a big bowl of fresh, homemade dumplings for our table to share. They were delicious. After chatting for a short while, we made our way out and, as we were leaving, Liz asked us if we wanted to wait a few moments she’d send us home with some fresh beef dumplings (the ones we had were pork)! Unfortunately, we were flying out the next day and couldn’t take them.

I would absolutely go visit with Liz and her family again the next time I’m in Scottsdale and I’d recommend you do the same if you’re in the area. And def try the dumplings–they were epic.

Absolutely the WORST Asian food I’ve had. Took 40 minutes to get, and just take a look at the photos. The lo mein noodles were massive, the wrong type. The potstickers were just chicken, and it was hard almost like it was pre cooked and then wrapped. Nothing had flavor or salted correctly.

Some of the best Chinese food in Scottsdale! Brisket steamed buns, wonton soup, & Mongolian beef were so delicious. Each dish had so much flavor. I highly recommend coming. I had to eat before the photos did. The service are so kind and met the owners.

Our experience was mixed – the service felt a bit scattered even though the restaurant wasn’t very busy. Our order came out wrong more than once, and we noticed similar confusion at nearby tables. If you stick to the more traditional Chinese items—especially the buns—the food is quite good. But some of the classic dishes, like Mongolian beef, didn’t taste traditional at all. The beef had more of a Korean barbecue testure, which didn’t really work in those dishes and threw off the balance. I enjoyed parts of the meal, but several people in our group didn’t. It didn’t feel like true Asian fusion or modern Asian cuisine—more like a barbecue-style approach to Asian dishes. Not a bad restaurant, but it didn’t quite live up to the high ratings we saw.

I visited during Arizona Restaurant Week, overall everything was ok. The dumplings I was not a fan of, the steamed buns would’ve been really good had the brisket not been so tough, the Korean fried chicken was good. The service was a little slow to start. When my party arrived we were the only one in the restaurant. Once more parties arrived service was quicker.
