NEW AYCE Hot Pot & BBQ. This is the first and only LIUYISHOU …
Reviews
I recently visited Liuyishou Hotpot & BBQ and overall I would say the experience was just average.
The biggest concern for me was the way the meat was handled. The restaurant leaves the trays of meat outside for customers to grab themselves. Even though the meat was placed in a cooler, it still didn’t make the meat feel very fresh to me. With so many people opening the cooler and handling the trays, it made me a little uncomfortable. I personally feel that if the kitchen sliced the meat and prepared it by order, it would help with quality control and make the food feel fresher and more sanitary.
The broth itself was decent. It had good flavor and worked well for hotpot, but it wasn’t anything particularly outstanding or memorable. I’ve had better broths at other hotpot restaurants where the flavors felt richer and more unique.
The service was okay. The staff weren’t rude, but they also weren’t very attentive or impressive. It felt more like a basic, standard service experience without much interaction or effort to check in on guests.
Another thing I noticed was the cleanliness of the restaurant. The place didn’t feel as clean as I would expect for a restaurant, especially one serving hotpot. Since hotpot involves raw ingredients and shared spaces, cleanliness is really important, and unfortunately that was something I felt could definitely be improved.
Overall, the experience wasn’t terrible, but it also didn’t stand out in a positive way. Because of the concerns about the meat handling and the overall cleanliness, I personally don’t think I will come back.
Our server Sam was fantastic — attentive, friendly, and very helpful explaining the menu and making sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. Hotpot can sometimes feel complicated for larger groups, but Sam made it easy and enjoyable for everyone.
The broth was flavorful, the ingredients were fresh, and the whole table had a lot of fun cooking and sharing together. The service really stood out and made the experience even better.
Highly recommend if you’re coming with friends or family for a group meal. We’ll definitely be back!
Well – the tables have so much hardware underneath, good luck sliding in and out the booth without catching your knees on the burner system under the table – no space at all. The meat bar and sauce bar is right next to one another and very small – so it’s takes some time and effort to get your food as there are a lot of others trying to get the same stuff. Meat selection was pretty basic – sauce bar was expansive but out of a lot of items and it gets messy. Having to ask for more garlic, scallions, chili etc twice before it came out. The veggie selection fairly basic as well. The rice was very old and dried out along the sides. They did have some precooked items but all weren’t visually appealing and most was running low.
The biggest complaint is the grill itself is a coil top grill with a large mesh on top. The workers said they cannot turn the grill up past 75% as it creates flames – but trying to cook meat at 75% heat on a coil top “grill” takes forever to cook the meat, by that time the meat is chewy and has zero flavor and many of the cuts are so thin, it starts to shred apart and fall into the grating. My wife and friend said they didn’t think the soup base for their hot pot had any flavor. We ate one plate of small plate of meat each and found that it took so long to cook the meat that we just gave up and left with a $268 bill – unsatisfied and not full. Save your money, travel a little further and you’ll find a lot better.
We were intrigued by the prices and AYCE options. We thought the they made a really good use of the space. Hotpot selections were decent. The service was excellent and very accommodating. The soup base was flavorful. The fresh veggies, fish , prawns, and other frozen meats was good. Plenty of sauces to create your own concoction of dipping sauces. There were some fresh fruits as well.
The only thing we wish was better are have marinated meats for the grill or Hotspot. The flavor gets a bit one note ish after a short while.
But for the value, we thought it’s was ok.
It is a long wait to get a table. We got there at 5 pm on a Tuesday for an early dinner but still had to wait for 30 minutes to get a table. They said it could take 2 hours to get a table during peak hours. That said, the long wait is well worth it. Is it pricey to pay $41.98 per person plus tax and gratuity? Yes, it is, but again, it is so worth paying! It clearly goes to the category of you get what you pay for, and this restaurant delivers well on both services and food quality. So bring lots of patience to wait for a table and for great service, and be ready to pay relatively more for great food, you will be super delighted! My group was so, so full and happy when we left. We will definitely come back.
However our waiter Chris and the service team here definitely deserve a huge mention. I usually hate tipping as service is mediocre and tips are expected, but I did not hesitate and was more than happy to tip here. They came to refill our sodas, hotpot, and sauces. Constantly came by to help us cook and cut our meats and made sure we had everything we needed. Outside of the 2 star michelin restaurant I went to in Milan, this was easily the best service I’ve received at a restaurant which is surprising as this is more of a self-service, cook-it-yourself type of place. Chris and the service team deserve the highest of praises.
Speaking of parties, this place seems like it would be amazing for one, if your friends are 21+! They have a good bar, and even have these large jug-like taps full of ice they will put down at your table! My party did not consume any alcohol, but others seemed to have a great time with it.
As for the food, I spent roughly 41 dollars per head, before tax. It was all you can eat with a time limit of 90 minutes – 2 hours, and you order on a tablet provided at your table. They are VERY quick bringing you the meats, and they have a self serving area with things like raw shrimp, eggs, imitation crab, as well as sauces for you to build your own dipping sauce.
The only big downside of the visit was our initial wait. At 6PM on a Tuesday, we waited roughly 45 minutes in line for a table, with 6 tables ahead of us. The staff repeatedly apologized, explaining that given the recent opening, everything was very hectic and the waiting time is their biggest obstacle for customers.
All in all, this place was a joy to be in, with the friendly atmosphere, helpful and fun staff, and delicious broths and meats.
