Went here for my birthday dinner, there were no black people working there, strange for a black owned establishment. The chicken was good but the greens were horrible! My kids are the pulled pork n mac n cheese they said it was okay but they have had better… I was hoping for an amazing experience and great good but I got way less….

I was looking for a good soul food restaurant in San Francisco, but this wasn’t it. Their restaurant is super cute, however the food was lack luster. The fried chicken was fried well, but lacked seasoning and flavor. The mac and cheese had breadcrumbs on top and that should have been a sign. My boyfriend had shrimp and grits and that was very disappointing. The grits had no flavor and they just put canned tomatoes on top instead of making a sauce or a rue.

It wasn’t busy in the restaurant, however the service was very slow. We ordered our food using Toast, but the waiter came over to tell us that he had a big party on the other side and we may not see him for awhile. I watched my overly sweetened sweet tea sit on the counter for awhile and just when I was about to go pick it up, another waiter brought it over. Nobody really came over to check on us. I had to ask several times for a to-go box and a bag. I won’t be returning.

I recently visited The Little Skillet in San Francisco with my mom and sweetheart, and it was an exceptional experience. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making us feel right at home from the moment we walked in. The food was nothing short of fantastic—crispy fried chicken, perfectly seasoned grits, melt-in-your-mouth cornbread, and indulgent chicken and waffles that hit every note. My sweetheart’s shrimp and grits and my mom’s catfish were equally delicious, showcasing the restaurant’s mastery of Southern comfort food. The service was friendly and attentive, adding to the overall welcoming vibe. Whether you’re with family or on a date, The Little Skillet is the perfect spot for soul-satisfying meals and an unforgettable dining experience. Highly recommend!

Happen to come across this joint on my way to the Giants game. If you’re looking for a soul food with character, great music, and downright delicious eats, Little Skillet is a must-visit. Tucked away near Oracle Park, this hidden gem serves up Southern classics that hit all the right notes.

The biscuits? Buttery and flakey perfection served with honey butter. The blackened shrimp with grits was flavorful, and balanced. The fried shrimp with mashed potatoes? A combo that’s both indulgent and deeply satisfying. And the fried chicken? Crispy, juicy, and everything you’d hope for from a true Southern kitchen.

Little Skillet delivers big on taste, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, this hole-in-the-wall is worth seeking out. Highly recommend!

A horrible strong smell of bad fish when we walked in the door should have been enough reason…. But the place was so cute the deco and “vibe” were amazing…. Duped definitely duped. All three in my party ordered the works. One with Mac n cheese, one with grits and the other french fries. Mac and cheese was spoiled grits were sour and the waffle batter was right along those lines of definitely going to make someone sick! Brought to the attention of the server/manager who did not even remove the dishes from in front of us but proceeded to ask if we wanted to try something else or have our items remade. We politely declined he left to inform the kitchen and came back with more food anyways…. That was still spoiled!!!! Everything was left on the table he could have cared less we didn’t eat and we’re still handed the check for $82. My friends who were buying lunch are a big blessing for this place cuz they actually paid the bill before we got up and walked out….. beware!!! Quite a few good reviews but not any too recently please don’t eat here!

I had high hopes walking into this restaurant, but unfortunately, the experience left me wondering what exactly people are raving about.

The chicken was completely unseasoned bland to the point of being forgettable. The syrup had an odd, almost artificial flavor that didn’t pair well with anything on the plate. The cornbread? Tiny and dry, with a taste that was outright unpleasant. I’ve had better from a box mix, and that’s saying something.

Speaking of boxed foods, the waffles didn’t even resemble waffles in taste or texture. Honestly, I’d prefer some frozen Eggo waffles over whatever that was. The macaroni and cheese, usually a soul food staple, was the final straw. I was tempted to say it tasted like KFC’s, but that would’ve been an insult to KFC.

The prices are outrageous for what you get, and the overall vibe just didn’t feel authentic. There wasn’t a single soul food flavor in sight, and surprisingly, the only Black person I saw during the visit was the bartender. It felt less like a soul food experience and more like a poorly executed imitation. And not to mention, they played no authentic black music, very odd for a soul food place. And with the lack of black people, the watermelon felt… racist? Odd?

Save your money and try another spot. This place is all hype and no heart.

Visiting San Francisco for a mini getaway and the hotel recommended this place. The vibe was nice upon entering, so that was good. Tribe called quest playing, sports on the screen, etc. I had the fried catfish, fried shrimp, greens and Mac and cheese. The greens were on point, macaroni flavorful, fish and shrimp well seasoned! Hubby had the chicken and waffles. He seemed to enjoy it as well.
Clarissa (spelling) was amazing and welcomed us into her city! We had two drinks . Overall, we would recommend and we would go back!

Beautiful space in SF with great vibes and FANTASTIC chicken. I had the works with a side of biscuits and with a cranberry soda. My friend had a bowl of grits with shrimp and we were both in love with the flavors and service here. Genuinely you won’t find tastier, crispier, well seasoned chicken with soft but flaky waffles and biscuits. The shrimp was delicious and well worth the wait. We had a small issue with one of our orders but the staff were QUICK to help us out and were very kind. Genuinely you are missing out if you do not visit Little Skillet!!!!!

We popped in for brunch this morning shortly after they opened. We ordered food for takeout before but today was our first time dining inside. It’s a cute place with a big bar and a lot of space. The food was good and the staff was friendly and attentive. We were pleasantly surprised by how inexpensive the mimosas were. Looks like we found another go to spot. We will definitely be back.
