The seasonal salad—purple cabbage dressed in a miso-forward, Japanese-leaning vinaigrette—is bright, tasty and light. Then, the reason people flock here: the fried fish sandwich. One bite and I got it. The beer-battered striped bass is engineered for peak crunch—so loud and crisp. A soft potato bun, dill pickles, kewpie mayo, and a slice of american cheese round it out, each playing a precise role. The crispy nori potatoes keep the crunch coming—piping hot, dusted in nori salt, and practically designed for dunking into the garlicky aioli. Impossible to eat just one. Inside, there’s a small bar and well-curated shop, but the fish sandwich is the real reason you’re here.
I recently had the unfortunate experience of trying a fish sandwich that was more of a letdown than a meal. To begin with, the sandwich was labeled as a “fish sandwich,” but the absence of any actual fish was glaring. Instead, it was mostly an oversized crust,
While crispy, the texture was overwhelmingly greasy, with oil practically oozing from every bite. It felt like I was biting into a thick layer of fried disappointment.
To top it all off, the price was simply unjustifiable. For a sandwich that lacked its primary ingredient and was drowning in oil, I expected much more for my money.
Avoid the stomach ache! Save your money and look elsewhere!
I’ve literally told him its me at Little Fish and he said, “Oh hey, whatsup.” Then the next time I come he pretends to not know me again. It really irks me and its incredibly poor customer service. I would probably be a regular because my girlfriend loves the Fish Sandwich but since I have to order from him and he makes it incredibly awkward every single time, I just can’t do it anymore.
He was a nice guy at Frank Coffee. Not sure why he can’t just acknowledge me for 10 seconds and make the transaction go smooth at Little Fish. Instead he goes out of his way to make me feel unwelcome. Other businesses understand the importance of this basic nicety so I’m not crazy for expecting this from him. If it was someone I had never met before taking my order, I really wouldn’t care (and I think they would still be nicer) but since I ordered coffee from Christian at least 50 times at Frank Coffee he should at least be nice and say hello.
It’s bullying behavior and I’m not going to pay money to be treated like that. It doesn’t matter if the food is good. I hope the owner can understand.
Little Fish is in Dada Market. They have an order window outside and they have lots of outdoor seating. I didn’t go into the market so not sure if you can order inside and not sure if there is seating inside. There is street parking and parking in the back that you do have to pay for.
I got an iced Elsinore which is a “okinawan black sugar sweetened latte with a cream top made of sour cream, condensed milk & heavy cream”, and it was pretty good. My main focus during this visit was coffee, so I will definitely e coming back to try their food. It looks delish!
I got the Elsinore coffee while I was waiting and that was so damn good. It tops the Maru Cream Top. It’s indulgent, but it’s worth it and I’m going to crave it.
I grabbed my two dishes to go, featuring the Brown Cheese Toast and the Fish Congee. The Congee kind of melted on side of my toast as it was in the bag on my way home (5 min away) but it didn’t seem to change any textures or flavors.
The toast is unlike anything I have tried before, the salt and cheesy taste is delicious and the bread is incredible. The white on the piece of bread is a fat slab of butter. lol. Maybe a little too much tbh. Half way through I dumped the butter off and ate it with just the cheese and bread. Delicious. Will I crave this dish or order it again? Probably not. But it was a good addition to my Fish Congee.
The Fish Congee looked a little sad on the eyes (in a to go bowl) but as I dipped my spoon in there, it revealed the fish, mushrooms, etc. and damn it’s good. The perfect amount of Chili oil, great tasing fish, and the egg was cooked to perfection. Would I order this again? Yes.
This makes me want to come back to try the Tartine and the pancakes. I think this is overall a great option for a quick grab upscale weekday breakfast/brunch.
