I am so happy that we just happened upon this amazing little place! We were passing through Buena Vista and the place we typically go to had a very long line so we went to see what else we could find. This place was perfect! Little Engine Eatery is essentially a food truck, but an old train car instead. The menu is simple, but has high quality ingredients. My three kids and I all got the Chicago “L” dogs, and all of us were really impressed. They were absolutely delicious!! There are two tables with umbrellas that give you a nice shady place to sit. After eating, my kids and I all agreed that we would now always choose this place over the one that had been our go to since I was a kid 30+ years ago. It wasn’t until we got home that I started reading more about the mission of Little Engine Eatery. We were already impressed, but the fact that it is actually a 501c3 created to give kids with developmental disabilities work experience made it even better! If you have the time, I recommend watching the short video on their website talking about how it started and their mission. What an amazing little gem!!

I literally stopped for the “gourmet hot dog.” Then I found out this is a symbiotic workplace for neurodivergent locals and supports an organization providing services for them. SO COOL! Skip the lines at the trendy lunch spots and come support these young adults!

14 July 2022 – Very friendly staff. Bratwurst was great with a nice, soft bun. A little pricey at $7.50, IMO, but it supports a good cause. Also, way better than the place a couple blocks away asking $12 for a brat, LOL.

I ordered one hot dog. It was $9? It was no better than a convenience store hot dog. Maybe worse. There were about 6 people working with one person in front of me. It took an unreasonably long time
to grab a hot dog and place a few toppings on it. With all the good reviews I’m thinking it was an off day. However, the hot dog was tiny. I don’t think I’ll even give it another chance for $9. The toppings were disappointing as well.

We stopped by on a snowy day in May and had a delicious meal! All their ingredients are locally sourced with the buns coming from the local bakery and the organic beef brats, so good! And they were just so nice and provided Wonderful customer service!

Where do I begin? The food is excellent! I got the German bratwurst, bag of chips, and my favorite IBC cream soda. The service was professional and so friendly! Many food establishments will get similar reviews, but that’s where the Little Engine Eatery is different. They have a mission to employ and give opportunities to the precious lives of our society that many others forget about. They are a nonprofit that provide paid work experience for people with learning disabilities. It was born of the parents love for their son who loves trains. If you are in BV, stop by and grab a bite to eat. It is WELL worth your time and money!!!

Delicious all natural brats and hot dogs! It’s a food truck with a couple of tables next to it to eat at. The staff is super friendly and attentive. Nice little stop on our road trip.
