This is my kid’s favorite places to stop at when he is in Lockhart. He usually orders the loaded fries. When you order the loaded fries, you can pick the wing flavor they drench the wings in. He opted for chicken buffalo and I ordered shrimp. I was impressed that I got a huge plate of loaded fries with shrimp for $12. When you go, there is only a walk up window and you do have to wait outside for your food. It is definitely worth the wait. My fries were crispy, covered in cheese and garlic parm shrimp. I was amazed about how filling they were. My son commented that it was busiest he had seen that place. I had been at night and they do need better lighting outside if you are going to go after dark. I had joked the next time we go, I will order the big wing pack they have for dinner. If you stop by, you will not be disappointed. This place definitely checks outs.

So good! I tried this place on my way out of town after staying the weekend at Palmetto State Park & it was the best end to my weekend. Great food, reasonably priced, quick service even though they were swamped with people, & friendly staff. A must try if you’re passing through.

WE WERE IN A BAD WAY, A REALLY BAD WAY AND REQUIRED SOME SINFUL FRIED FOOD, ON GOOD FRIDAY!!!
We had been awake since 4am CST, traveling, so we were exhausted and hungry aka Hangry. As we rolled into Lockhart on our way to our Airbnb (that’s another review, stay tuned…), we passed Lil’ Charlie’s. My Ball and Chain (Ray, he’s usually my main star in my reviews, but lately he’s been acting like a villain) decided we should probably get a little bite of something, to perk us up! I personally was thrilled when I saw the can of BIG RED!!! I LOVE BIG RED, as much as I love Texas (GOD BLESS TEXAS!!!)! If y’all have never tried Big Red, you’re missing an emotional experience!!! Then I started reading the menu and my disposition changed into pure delight! I swear, I became a different gal! They had Fried Okra! I love fried okra and hadn’t had it, since I had moved from Texas!
I order the Chicken Tender combo w fried okra. The tenders were dipped in Buffalo sauce. The meal was Chicken Tenders For My Soul! Everything was perfectly cooked (fried) and so tasty! The meal ONLY cost $7.00! My husband, Ray (the Villain of this review) ordered the Fish & Shrimp Combo. It looked Great! I didn’t try any and I didn’t ask if he liked it or not.
There’s only outside seating and drive thru available for your dining options. It was warm today, so I asked the lil gal working at the counter for a cup of ice to pour my Big Red in. She said, they do not have ice or cups at Lil Charlie’s. (WHAT?!?!?! No ice, in Central Texas?!?!) The no ice thing is my only gripe. After 5-6 minutes of trying to eat our food, the flies and bees decided they wanted to dine with us. So, we packed up our stuff and left to eat the rest later in our Airbnb.

UPDATE: Turns out Ray was acting like The Villain,, because he was working up his nerve to announce he wanted a divorce. Bless his wicked little black heart! I hope steps on a tack barefooted!

If you are in Lockhart stop here to eat the best loaded fries! They are bomb, the staff is sweet & respectful, they have plenty of tables & chairs for you to enjoy your meal & it is right next to the downtown area of Lockhart to take a nice walk after or while you wait for your food.

Stopped here on my way passing through and was extremely impressed with their wings. We got buffalo, garlic Parmesan, lemon pepper, and mild flavors and all of them were flavorful and juicy.

The Mac n cheese was great and their fries are super thick and tasty too. We will definitely stop here again!

Stopped by for lunch. They have many items to choose from. I heard their loaded fries were delicious but I opted for fish w/ 2 sides; mac and cheese and okra. The mac and cheese was delicious, tasted homemade like they made a roux for the cheese sauce. They are generous with the serving sizes so I’ll have leftovers for lunch tomorrow. There are picnic tables in front if you prefer to eat on site. Friendly and fast service with a smile. Will return.

Lil’ Charlie’s is a gem! Their terrific, juicy, crispy chicken sandwich is a flavor explosion. The friendly staff adds to the welcoming vibe, and the retro look transports you to a nostalgic haven. Outdoor seating, with a backdrop you might recognize from “Love and Death” starring Elizabeth Olsen, adds a touch of cinematic charm. A must-visit for a delightful meal and a trip down memory lane!

We usually go for the loaded fries, my daughter loves it with honey bbq & ranch, but we recently decided to try their chicken wings since they were highly recommend, & supposedly #1 in Lockhart. We got the 10 piece, & had several choices of sauces to choose from, but wanted to keep it simple for our first try, so we chose honey bbq. It also came with 2 sides, so we chose the waffle fries & onion rings, & it came with a drink. I figured, having such a big order, I’d be getting a nice size drink, but it was a single can of soda, but hey, we aren’t here to talk about the drink, so let’s get straight to it! The meal looked appetizing, & when I took the first bite, I got so much sauce that overpowered everything… Don’t get me wrong, I love sauce, but it seemed to try to balance out the slight dryness of the chicken wing, as I prefer my wing a little moist. I learned quickly to wipe off the access sauce to get more pleasing taste, & definitely know now, to order it with half the sauce if I plan to order them in the future. The waffle fries were ok, not crispy, but I think out of the whole order, the onion rings were the BEST part of my meal. Nice & crispy, one of my top choices by far in Lockhart. So, overall, since there isn’t any other chicken wings to compare it to, I CAN’T say that these were ranked #1 of Lockhart, but in my opinion, I’ll continue to make mine homemade. I’m not spending over $15 for 10 pieces of chicken wings, drenched in bbq sauce to try to compensate for the dryness of the wing, 2 sides, & a can of soda.
