Central apark is the most amazing location in all of Manhattan. It is more than a collection of Natural wonders like the world’s largest collection of free standing Elm trees, (over 1,700 trees situated just South of Bethesda Fountain all along the mall).
After Living in the Upper West side’s West 72nd St. Just a few yards away from the park’s entrance it added to your daily experiences both socially and culturally. Also the Park seemed to elevate your neighborhood to that of an exclusive resort! We used to refer to Sheep’s meadow as the “Club Med of the Upper West side!” At times it is like an alternate universe where you can go bike riding, rollerblading, ride a merry go round, couples playing with their toddlers on a slide or jungle gym, horseback riders along the bridle path, catch a live rock concert, or Mozart in the park concert, a Shakespearean play @ Belvedere Castle, or stroll along with a friend while enjoying an ice cream cone, all at the same park, all at the same time!
I can not say enough about one of the most wonderful attractions of Manhattan.
It is true, when you leave the park you actually feel sad as you never want to depart, (very much the same feeling when you leave Rome after your vacation comes to its conclusion).
To us the beer wall you get a bracelet, scan it in front of the beer you want and then serve as much or as little as you want. You can pour a tasting or a whole glass. After each pour it gives you a tally of how much you have poured. After 48 ounces you have to go back to the bar and renew your bracelet. It is a really great system though because you can try as much beer as you want without worrying about tipping or bothering the bar staff.
The food is delicious and unhealthy just like it should be at a bar. The friend pickles are amazing and so are the hot pretzel bites; however they claim that their chicken wings are award winning but unless it was a contest for mediocrity I didn’t find that they are anything special.
They have a mostly older crowd on the weekends which I was surprised by because it seemed like the type of place that would attract more like a mid-20’s crowd. They have very friendly staff and they usually dress up for football games and other events so it has a festive feel.
Their beer wall is pretty unique and fun. You get a wristband when you first go in (if you are planning on drinking just beer) and a pint glass, then you go to the wall and pour your own beer. The cool thing is that they charge by the ounce, so you can get as much or as little as you want. While some people may not be into pourin for themselves, I thought it was fun and easier than waiting for a busy bartender.
That is only one half of the equation. The new tap system is a wall of Craft Beer heaven. No need to wait on your drinks! Simply walk up the the wonder wall and try as much or as little of any type of beer. It gets measured and charged by the ounce but at the end of the day, prices are very competitive for quality brews.
Management is superior; owners have plenty of experience and know what is needed for a successful business. Way to go…Congrats!
Can’t wait to go back and bring the wife.
The good is consistent. Some dishes better than others like anywhere. Their BBQ and pulled pork are actually good.
I’ve had great service and borderline bad service but that seems to be from lack of servers at times. I won’t fault a place for servers being out. Unless they just run a really small crew.
