While downtown Atlanta, I decided to check out the new Lewis Barbecue at Ansley Mall. I arrived around 11:40 a.m., thinking I might beat the lunch rush. No such luck—but the line was only to the door and not yet outside, so I felt pretty fortunate.

As you enter, menu boards are clearly posted along with the day’s specials. Drinks are on ice while you wait in line, just like the great Texas BBQ joints. The first stop is choosing your sides (corn pudding and a hunk of cheese for me), along with complimentary pickles and onions if you want them.

From there, you move down to the meat counter. The staff was friendly, happy to answer questions, and—since this was my first visit—kind enough to offer a sample. I ordered a brisket sandwich and was asked if I preferred lean or fatty. Naturally, I went with a little of both.

The brisket absolutely lived up to the hype—some of the best I’ve ever had, if not the best. My only regret was visiting solo, which meant choosing carefully. Next time, I’m bringing others so we can sample more meats and sides.

Well done, Lewis Barbecue—and thank you for bringing a true taste of Texas to Atlanta with some awesome southern hospitality with your excellent service and staff.

I really enjoyed my meal here. This was the best brisket sandwich I have ever had. I loved the multiple bbq sauce options. I tried them all. This was worth the trip. It is tucked behind the strip mall and you will not see the sign from the road. My only complaint would be the menu was not complete when I went and it’s confusing how you order…you order sides first and then your entree.

I’ve been to all the best BBQ places in metro Atlanta, and around the country. Lewis ranks at the top.

The restuarant is unique as it has two entrances directly across from eachother. One is the “regular” restuarant with the full menu. The other is the “bar” with a limited menu (mostly sandwiches and sides). However, you can go thru the line on the full menu side and take you food over to the bar side and enjoy drinks from a full bar. I would say both sides are family friendly.

As you go thru the line in the full menu side, you start with cold sides, then work your way to hot sides, then to the meat. They have a great selection of sides. The sides we picked were delicious! Collard greens and mac and cheese are a must! I really liked the fact that they let you try the meat as you make your decisions. We tried some of each and it was all phenomenal. The sausage has some kick to it. The brisket was ridiculous. And…I’m going to say it was the best pulled pork I’ve ever had!

Top all that off with a selection of pies…god help us all. Of course the banana pudding/pie was delicious but the chocolate pie and the raspberry lemon were so good too.

The service was outstanding and it’s a great, fun atmosphere!

Lewis BBQ will be a regular for me!!!

Lewis Barbecue – 9/10

If you’re looking for real-deal Texas-style BBQ in the A, Lewis Barbecue is it.

The brisket immediately took me back to authentic Texas BBQ — that peppery bark was on point, the smoke ring was beautiful, and it was tender without falling apart. You can taste the patience in that cook. That’s not easy to replicate outside of Texas, but they nailed it.

The greens were hitting — seasoned right, flavorful, and not overly salty. Definitely not an afterthought side.
The macaroni and cheese was fire — creamy, rich, and comforting with that baked top layer that seals the deal.

The hot sausage was hitting too — nice snap, balanced heat, and juicy all the way through.
The ribs were perfect, especially with that glaze on them. Tender, flavorful, and cooked exactly how ribs should be — not dry, not mushy.

The only thing I didn’t care for personally was the potato salad, but that’s just my preference — some folks will love it. And the cornbread is definitely an acquired taste. Different style than what I’m used to, but I respect it.

Best of all — shout out to G and the rest of the staff for the great service. Friendly, attentive, and welcoming. Service matters, and they delivered.

This is officially my new BBQ spot in the A.

9/10 — Highly recommended.

I had such a great experience, the restaurant is so clean and the employees were so nice and willing to help you. But the food was amazing! The ribs and brisket were so tender, melt in your mouth. And the sides were good very well seasoned. I just wish the bbq sauce was a little thicker. That’s it, I will definitely be back oh and again the staff is amazing some will say its pricey but its worth every penny.

First time here, and it won’t be the last! The service, from the second we walked in, was top notch! Very friendly, helpful and truly like what they do (or def acted like it!). The portions are HUGE and the food is sooooo good! Please don’t change a thing! We had the brisket, ribs, Mac and cheese and the potato salad! Just amazing!

The food was very bland across the board, no flavor at all. The brisket was the best meat we got. The Mac was good (my favorite of the night).
Even the sauces were bland and very watery.

The service was fine, I feel like they can do a better job of explaining the menu and how you order and what comes with what.

The atmosphere was great: clean, and enjoyable to eat in.

I wouldn’t recommend this place for BBQ 🙁 and I would not go back.

I was at Lewis Barbecue Atlanta today and I have to say it was a great and complete experience. The brisket was delicious, the turkey very flavorful, and the sides were also very well made. I also need to commend the service; the people are spectacular, very welcoming and friendly. I had a great time and highly recommend it!
I wish them much success!!!

Lewis Barbecue

The brisket was the star — absolutely loved it. I usually eat brisket plain, but adding the pickled onions, regular onions, and pickles took it to another level.

The ribs were just okay.
The sides weren’t my favorite — the mac and cheese and greens didn’t really stand out to me.

I really liked the assembly-line style setup. You start with the sides and then move down to the meat counter, which feels like having your own butcher. The person slicing the brisket even let me try a sample first, which was a nice touch.

They also have a separate section that serves margaritas, which is a fun addition if you want to make it more of a vibe.

It’s located in a busy plaza, so parking is free — but it can definitely get packed, especially on a nice day. The outdoor seating area is great when the weather is good.

I’d definitely come back for the brisket.

Just had dinner here. Everything was great. Authentic Texas bbq. Definitely better than whatever we had before in town. I been to Austin & Houston this past summer. The BBQ there was just slightly better. But for Atlanta this is the best we have know.

Ribs and the brisket were the star of the shows

The lounge area is SUPER NICE. Great music and vibes.
