This place is the quintessential Cafe for a wonderful, small community. Friendly staff, fast and delicious food, and great prices. I love going here with family, the food always hits.

Since new owners took over this place sometime this year, I heard good things about it so my husband and I decided to check it out and thought it was just okay. We both ordered omelets which were not that big and sliced potatoes which were greasy. When asked what the options were for toast my husband decided to get rye bread and there an upcharge for it and the waitress didn’t bother telling us nor did the menu. And then something similar happened on our second visit. I saw that they offered hash browns instead of sliced potatoes so I opted for those instead and there was a $0.69 up charge and again the menu nor the waitress told us that. I didn’t pay it either. If this restaurant is going to continue to upcharge for things without giving people prior notice I will not be going there anymore. Plus I feel like half of my food was toast. I don’t see the bigger portions everybody is talking about in the reviews. My husband got the kitchen sink and over half of it was potatoes. We get that there was going to be a bit of a wait as well since it was crowded on our second visit but it shouldn’t have taken 25 minutes to get our food. And none of the seats are comfortable. Both the seats in the booth and the seats at the table are hard as bricks. We probably won’t be going back. Joanna’s is just down the road 10 minutes and serves a lot better food in a lot quieter and more comfortable atmosphere.

I would not go back again. We walked in sat down and waited for awhile before anyone came to greet us. At the time we went in there was one couple leaving. No one else so wondered why no one even said hi. Food was just average at best.

This week, I got invited to the first dinner service ever held by Leo Cafe. Over many generations, they have been a breakfast and lunch only spot.
For an appetizer, I had the loaded sidewinders. Not quite a curly fry, not quite a potato wedge. Served smoking hot with a couple different types of cheese melted on top with bacon and fresh cut onion. Wonderful flavor and definitely worth ordering again.
I couldn’t decide between a couple entrees, but picked the blackened catfish with rice and onion rings. The seasoning on the fish had a bit of heat without being overwhelming. The “salsa” on top made a nice balance with the seasoning. You can tell everything was freshly prepared. Not too much to say about the rice. Cooked properly, but might have needed a little something.
The onion rings were hot and the appropriate color of golden brown. I prefer this smooth style breading and the onions being small enough that you can poke a whole one in your mouth and not take a bite where you get all the onion and an empty piece of breading in your hand.
They had cheesecake listed on the wall as a dessert option, but it was sold out by the time I finished my meal. Maybe next time.
As for the building, everything was freshly painted since the newest owners took it over in January. You can definitely tell she genuinely cares about her guests. Every table got a visit while I was there.
If you are an artist and have something to sell or display, it looks like they’re trying to line up people to decorate their walls. Send her a message if this does something for you.
They are I think doing Thursday Friday and Saturday only right now, from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00. For being their first dinner service, food was coming out of the kitchen quickly and I didn’t see anyone send anything back.
I’ll definitely get back there in the next few weeks.
Follow-up visit 12-18-25. Had the Southwest wrap with sidewinders. Great value. excellent flavor. Would order again.

The food at Leo Cafe came out fast and hot. Our server Barbie was very friendly and answered all of our questions. The waffles were made well. The chicken tenders were juicy and had just the right amount of breading. The bacon was a little tough and chewy. I would’ve preferred it cooked crispy. My wife’s one wish was that the coffee was a better quality blend. Overall we with bellies full of good breakfast and our hearts full of joy. We did however wind up traveling down the road to Common Grounds in Grabill to grab my wife a better cup of coffee. If you’re looking for a good, hot meal at an affordable price, then you should give Leo Cafe a visit.

I give it two because it was clean and staff was nice. But the food…so disappointed. Ordered a Cesar Chicken Salad. I got a plate of iceberg lettuce and 4 pieces of frozen grilled chicken. The croutons were good tho. Please revise your salad.

Get outside of your comfort zone and live a little is what I tell myself when I’m out of town. Stop fueling mcdonald’s and support local business. A little breakfast/ lunch diner. Good food. Nice waitress. Clean and updated building/bathroom. Use the KISS method when ordering and selecting food. I had zero issues.
