I ordered today 2-18-26 a chaufa especial, huacaina pasta w chicken and a tallarin verde with salmon. This is the first and last time I’m ordering from any of these places, I’d rather make the drive to Quilla by Sabor Peruano in Rahway in the future. The pasta for both dishes were bland, chicken breast and salmon was dry. The worst part was the chaufa. Who the hell deep fries seafood and other proteins for a dish that’s suppose to be sautéed. For the price you pay, the quality of the food sucks! Will not recommend it to anyone. If I could give 0 stars, i wouldn’t hesitate to do it.

This is my first time in NJ, and I’m sad I’m leaving because I’m in love with this place, the food, the service, and the atmosphere. The first day that I visited this place, they had a music band, and the atmosphere was pleasant; the servers were so nice and took care of our table. Your food and your service are excellent. The second time I spent time with my mom, the place was empty, and they always checked the table. I have to come back one more time before I leave!

My wife purchased dinner with Uber Eats from here. It was our first time ordering food from this restaurant and we definitely should have read the reviews prior to pulling the trigger on this place. The food was horrific. The Chaufa was terrible. Tasted old, reheated, overly seasoned with ginger, and nearly no other veggies in it other than scallions. Even the chicken we ordered in it was completely absent! We also ordered the Lena en carbon platter (a various meat platter). It was terrible, terrible, terrible. The beef was so badly overcooked it was like biting into a rubber band. Seriously poor cuts of beef and inedible. Their pork chops were the only saving grace of our purchase, and I’m not claiming they were great, but at least edible. We got yucca and it also was disgusting. No flavor, no seasoning and dry. This is the worse Peruvian restaurant we have ever had food from. My wife and I love Peruvian food, so we definitely know what we’re talking about. Buyer beware. I would give less than 1 star if I could. Go elsewhere for genuine Peruvian food.

: I recently ordered Peruvian takeout from a This restaurant, and I must say it was a complete letdown. when I opened the containers, I was hit with a strong, unpleasant odor. The dishes lacked flavor and were incredibly bland. The portions were also significantly smaller than expected, leaving me feeling unsatisfied and hungry. Additionally, the prices were exorbitant for the quality of food provided. Overall, I would not recommend this Peruvian takeout to anyone. Save your money and look elsewhere for a more authentic and satisfying dining experience.

I love this place but it pains to write but if it means I could save a life then so be it. I ordered 3 tallarines verdes con bistec and a chaufa de pollo. My husband is HIGHLY allergic to shellfish of which we ordered no such thing.
To the surprise of my husband, he starts to eat his food and found a crab leg in his chaufa and immediately starts going into anaphylaxis. I called the restaurant in the car on the way to ER and the guy answering phones was apologetic and said he’d tell his cook to be more careful but I need them to keep their word.
I am terrified waiting for my husband’s symptoms to subside. Again if this means I’m saving a life then this is what it has to be. Why was there even a crab leg? Was it mixed from someone else’s plate? I’m really troubled at the quality.

Awful service. As I post this, I had my last beer 15 minutes ago, and I am being completely ignored. I believe it has to do with the system they have set up. Bartender is eating & no one is replacing her to attend to me. Only because she was my original service.

Disgusted, there was a cockroach in my food, hope nobody ever orders from here again.
(Edited after Response from owner)-I ordered the food for pickup and started eating the chicken which is cooked separate from the pasta since it’s placed on top and unfortunately I did consume some of the pasta which though creamy is dense and I am not searching around for roaches in my food so didn’t find the cockroach immediately. I am adding this edited part since the owner responded to my post but I am not someone who usually even submits any reviews online even when the food tastes good or bad, I don’t have anything to gain out of this and just want others to be aware since there was a cockroach in my food.
Also I called just now and apparently nobody there really spoke English well so we couldn’t communicate much but enough to get info that the Owner is coming next week and not sure what solution we can come to since I am not really looking for a refund either and am not willing to order from here again.

I’m really disappointed with my recent experience at Leña y Carbón. My fiancée ordered food from here, and she received undercooked chicken, which is a serious food safety issue and completely unacceptable.
On top of that, I specifically asked about pork due to religious reasons and was told that they don’t serve pork. It was later discovered that the restaurant does, in fact, have pork on the menu. Whether it was a misunderstanding or not, it left us feeling misled and unsafe about what we were eating.
Between the undercooked chicken and the inaccurate information about the menu, I don’t feel comfortable ordering from here again, and I wouldn’t recommend it to others—especially anyone with dietary or religious restrictions.

My first experience with this place was being greeted with a “cash only” sign. As soon as you walk in, there is a long skinny dreary hallway that has an ATM and the bathrooms. Once you pass that hallway, you walk into a small dining room with the cashier to your immediate right. I was not greeted by the hostess that was standing right there at the cash register. I continued to sit myself down at one of the tables. After a few minutes the hostess invited me to walk up to the cash register area to view the daily specials on the board. After deciding to just take something off the menu I grabbed 2 menus and ordered drinks for me and my other party member. After sitting down, we were brought 1 of the drinks. After a few minutes I had to again remind the hostess to bring the second drink. After bringing us the second drink, she then took our order. The food did arrive in a nice timely manner and it looked delicious. My only complaint about the food was that I had ordered the rotisserie chicken and when I bit into it, the chicken was a little more pink then I was comfortable with. Other then that everything else was good. Once I was done with my food and received my bill, I noticed that the gratuity was automatically charged to the bill. All in all if you’re looking for a quick meal and aren’t expecting anything fancy, it’s not too bad of a spot to stop in and get something to eat.
