Very good service. Food was on the disappointing side. I ordered a lobster bisque and lemon drop martini. I knew from the color of the martini that something was off
For some reason my lemon drop had a strong taste of mango purée which doesn’t make anny sense, and the lobster bisque was very bitter. I had to send it back because I couldn’t endure the taste. I ended up getting the chowder instead and with a little salt and pepper was decent.
I’m considering tasting their Cajun shrimp and scallop linguini Valentine’s Day Feature. But at the rate of how my order has been coming out this far I believe I’ll be disappointed and I don’t want to waste money

I’m only reviewing because I never received a phone call nor an email about the bugs I found in my take out order. I ordered directly from the website but I guess DoorDash manages the orders, not sure how that works on the backend but I picked my order up from the restaurant. I emailed the restaurant as directed by the site if there’s any issues with the order, and never received a response. I can’t comment on the atmosphere nor the service for those who choose to dine in.

Legal seafood has a place in my heart because we use to spend family time here for special occasions. It felt only right to take my brother here for his birthday. The staff were great, but the food was terrible and bland. The best part was the oysters and lemon and berry bread pudding. I ordered the salmon with whipped potatoes and bok choy and kimchi. He ordered the swordfish with broccoli and whipped potatoes. We didn’t even finish our food. I would expect better especially since they are apart of Short Hills Mall. I feel like I blew my money on food I didn’t enjoy at all.

My wife and I go to Legal Seafoods in the Short Hills Mall occasionally, though it has been quite a while since we have been there, and expect a good, but not great meal. We went there tonight. The evening started out ok, with attentive waitstaff and good drinks. The salad was ok though over dressed. Those were the highlights. Dinner then fell off of a cliff. The “rare” tuna was a lump of overcooked tasteless tan fish (see photo), and the accompanying potatoes were cold. My meal was over breaded overcooked fried clams. With the breading peeled off what was left were shriveled up whole clams. This used to be a signature dish at Legal. What a shame. Oh, and the French fries were soggy. The foundingfamily of this restaurant chain should be ashamed at what it has turned into since its sale.
I almost never post reviews, but this one could not be avoided.

I have been dining at Legal Seafoods for over 20 years but sadly this is my last rodeo. Their quality has been going down for quite some time. Tonight was my last straw!! I was served this shrimp cocktail and when I saw it immediately told them to take it back. I was told they source their shrimp from somewhere else now & that it was perfectly fine. I didn’t even order dinner. My husband’s salmon was unappetizing.

Me and my husband came for lunch and I could not complain one bit!
Mussels – 8/10
Artic char (husband) – 10/10
Lunch lobster roll (me) – 9/10
Sirloin steak bites – 0/10 (no flavor, cold, sent it back after one bite)
Drinks – 10000/10 (Susie was absolutely AMAZING)
Service – 10000000/10 (Walter, our server, was so pleasent and nice. He was always smiling and constantly checked on us. He told us he was new, and I let him know he was absolutely incredible. I really appreciate good service and he was phenomenal.
Thank you Walter and Susie!

Eric was our server and he was amazing! I took his recommendation and I was not disappointed. Overall quality of food was good which also matched the level of service. Keep up the great work.

Nice, but not amazing… The seafood cones were interesting, but lame at best. The server was low energy and had a checked out attitude. The fried shrimp was OK, but typical… Overall, it’s a good second choice if Cheesecake is too crowded….

Zero!!!! No service at the bar at all! Salad was served without dressing as if I’m a rabbit. Martini glass was disgusting dirty but didn’t realize until I drank it and it dried off. Not once did any of the bartenders ask if I needed anything or if anything was okay. Go home or do something else if you don’t like your job. Enough with the tips and BS if service is not there. Not asking for anything special, just minimal service required to experience a nice lunch out. Management is lacking and it shows. It’s only a matter of time until you shut your doors. Never again! By the way, add some music in the background. It feels like a wake in there.

Over 20 years ago, I first visited Legal Sea Foods in Boston. Since then, every time I crave lobster or oysters, this has been my go-to place, mainly because the quality is consistently reliable. This time, I visited the Short Hills location for dinner for the first time. On a weekday evening, the restaurant wasn’t too crowded, so we didn’t need to wait for a table. The atmosphere was spacious and comfortable.
The oysters here, as always, are of excellent quality and completely safe to enjoy. I ordered half a dozen—though not very large, they were fresh and sweet. I also noticed a promotion for Happy Hour on weekdays from 2:00 to 5:00 PM, where oysters are just $2 each. I’ll definitely come back to try that.
This time, we ordered Octopus Leg, Crab Cake Combo, and Surf and Turf.
The Octopus Leg was generously portioned and incredibly tender, paired with soft and flavorful baby potatoes and crisp cauliflower is an absolutely satisfying dish.
The Crab Cake, a signature item, lived up to its reputation. The crab meat was in visible chunks and tasted wonderfully fresh. The scallops were cooked to perfection, tender and bouncy.
The Surf and Turf was visually stunning, aromatic, and delicious, offering the best of both worlds—seafood and steak—perfect for those who love a variety of flavors.
The total for three people, including tips, was $200. It’s a great place to celebrate a special occasion, and I look forward to my next visit!
