We are the home to the Best Chicken in Wausau Lee’s Famous Recipe is known for our Honey Dipped Hand Breaded Chicken. Many people do not know this but Lee’s is a franchise. There are over 140 Lee’s in the country. We are proud to say that the Wausau Store was the third store to open in franchise history in 1967. Lee’s Famous Recipe was started by Lee Cummings who was Colonel Sander’s nephew. The Colonel and Lee started Kentucky Fried Chicken in the late 50’s. It was actually Lee’s Famous Recipe that was used as Kentucky Fried Chickens recipe. When the Colonel and Lee sold the Kentucky Fried Chicken name in 1962 Lee kept the Fried Chicken recipe. Our Wausau location has been family owned for over 50 years.

Stopped in this afternoon to do some ‘homework’ and I’ve been craving the fish fry.
The gentleman at front didn’t have a name tag but i’d like to mention his customer skills are very admirable and felt like he treated me better than anyone else out in the public this week. Rough week, so nice to come here and be treated like a human(: thank you
And fish fry was great(: the atmosphere is friendly…noone cussing from the kitchen, yelling at each other, etc. How nice. And it seems staff treat each other with respect and this is rare today. So I’m happy for you all there, at least it seems like a good work environment.
Way to go!! Four stars just because there’s ALWAYS room for improvement(:

Would not recommend. Greasy chicken that doesn’t have any seasoning or flavor. Same goes for the mashed potatoes, gravy, and biscuits. I didn’t even bother with the coleslaw. Complete waste of money. Lamb’s has much better chicken and is more affordable. I’ve had better hospital food.

My wife and I went there for the first time for dinner she ordered the 3 chicken strip meal. I ordered the 3 piece chicken meal and we both have sweet tea. The chicken was awesome and the staff was great. We definitely will be back.

Clean and very friendly service just bad food chicken was cold and bland and very very dry need sweet tea in the fountain drink over all just very bad food and the wedges where wet and not warm ranch tasted like mayo don’t recommend if u like seasoned food and be careful when going in parking lot is hill

Lee’s is such a beloved community staple that it hardly warrants reviewing, but still, I’d like to give my two cents. My partner and I love coming here because the food’s delicious and the staff are all very helpful & friendly! I’ve never had a poor experience here. I grew up in Florida for most of my life, and I can honestly say that the food does indeed have that “southern comfort food” charm about it. The sweet tea is also some of the best you can get around Wausau! I always get that as a beverage and have bought gallon jugs of it on a number of occasions.

Just moved to wausau so many options for food. We ordered here today staff is amazing as well as super friendly. Cheese curds to die for chickine and biscuits amazing mash potatoes and gravey great. Mac n cheese very bland…potatoe salad might have been better of not warm because of it being in with chicken and the baked beans not for me. We will be back for a few things customer service was the big win for us very personal and clean restaurant. Let’s not forget about the sweet tea maybe a tad bit more sugar but other then that loved it
