Le Spice in Ely is a fantastic local Indian restaurant with a warm, community feel. The waiters were polite, jovial, and made the evening feel welcoming and relaxed. The atmosphere was lovely, with a thoughtful touch in the beautifully folded napkins on the table.
The menu offers a great balance between familiar British Indian favourites like korma and jalfrezi, and more traditional Indian dishes that add real depth to the choices available.
We started with popadoms for the table. The plain ones were just as expected, but the spicy popadoms really stood out—light sesame notes and a gentle kick made them something special. These came with the classic popadom sauces, which paired nicely.
For my main, I had the lamb shank, which was absolutely divine. The lamb was tender and fell elegantly off the bone, served in a rich, spiced tomato sauce that complemented the meat beautifully.
The peshwari naan was also a highlight—plump, soft, and just the right amount of sweet.
Highly recommended if you’re after great food in a friendly, local setting.

Incredible food, Amin is such a great host, the entertainment has been brilliant. Amin will go out his way to ensure you have the best possible experience dining at Le Spice. All the staff are very friendly.

Collected a takeaway order from here, staff were friendly, food was ready at the right time.
Good portion sizes, really tasty curries (Jalfrezi and Garlic Chilli Chicken). Only reason I’ve knocked a star off is the poppadoms were a bit stale – not as crispy as normal.
Otherwise really good, would recommend and will be returning.
Addition 2.2.26 – visited here for the second time, and as a result have adjusted the review to 5/5.

I came in after my reservation fell through elsewhere and was pleased that a table was available. The servers were very friendly, although it wasn’t very busy and many of them just wandered around aimlessly or stood right in front of the door and stared outside which was a little off putting. I ordered an onion bhaji and a lamb rogan josh with pilau rice (my go to and favourite curry to have). The lamb rogan josh was absolutely delicious and one of the best I’ve had! Unfortunately my stomach seems to have disagreed with this and I have been a little ill since. Despite this, I had a pleasant and enjoyable experience here, and may visit again in the future to try more of the menu

This is the best Indian restaurant I have had the pleasure of eating in. Wonderful food, service and atmosphere. The food is overwhelmingly good and it’s all reasonably priced. I highly recommend you eat here when you can and I look forward to my next visit.

Visited with me and my partner’s family. Really good atmosphere with great host and good conversation. Lots of choice on the menu for food and sides as well. Waited a little while for the food but was all worth it. I had the lamb shank and it was absolutely delicious and very flavourful. Thank you guys for a lovely evening.

By far my favourite curry house! In Ely but also the world! Ha! It’s always great but it’s a particular highlight when Amin, the owner, is in! You get greeted so warmly and made to feel so welcome. And this place also does a LOT for the community – getting involved with charity fundraisers all the time! We love Le Spice!
