Social Profile:

We’re a Belgian bakery and restaurant serving simple, wholesome and seasonal food. Le Pain Quotidien means “the daily bread” in French, and like our name suggests, we’re bakers at heart. Although our handmade, organic bread is how we got our start, we serve a variety of healthy options like organic coffee, pastries, eggs, tartines, soups, salads and desserts. At Le Pain Quotidien, we believe that food should be simple, nourishing and delicious. That’s why we source ingredients that are local or organic whenever possible. We also believe in the importance of eating a healthy, plant-based diet, so you’ll find many vegetarian or vegan options on our menu.

Classic light fare & organic breads fill out the menu at this rustic-chic bakery/cafe chain.

Okay so… not a great experience.

First thing we got was the coffee. And yes, this is how everyone gets it, but it’s still bizarre. It’s served in a literal bowl. No handle. Just a hot bowl you’re expected to pick up. I get that it’s their thing, but it’s awkward and not practical at all.

Then the food came out. The bread was cold. Like actually cold and very clearly not fresh. One of the breads tasted like plain butter on chewy, stale bread… and the butter had zero salt. No flavor at all. Which is wild for a place that’s supposed to be centered around bread.

On top of that, our ham, egg, and cheese order came out wrong. Completely different bread than what we asked for. At that point we were already tired of waiting, so we agreed to just take it home, still pay for it, and reorder the same sandwich but on the correct baguette.

Even the reordered ham, egg, and cheese baguette came out cold again and wasn’t toasted at all. We asked if it could be reheated, and instead it was microwaved… which made the egg rubbery and sliding around on the plate. The whole thing just felt sad and poorly assembled.

I will say, the waiter was extremely sweet and kind. No complaints there at all.

But the food quality just isn’t it. If you compare this to somewhere like Paris Baguette, which is easily A-tier, this feels more like C-tier, maybe even D-tier. Especially for the price. We left feeling like we paid way too much for cold, bland, poorly executed food.

Probably wouldn’t come back.

What a horrible experience. Very nice waitress. I ordered a ham and cheese sandwich and asked to add egg. First they brought a small sandwich never mentioned they have different breads. I asked if can do baguette and we’ll keep the small sandwich. Baguette was cold. I ask few seconds in microwave, could not touch the sandwich for a minute until it cooled off. The sunny side up eggs I had to add them to the sandwich, and when they brought the sandwich back from microwave, now I had overcooked eggs. Never visit again. Specially for a $98.00 bill. Btw I like hot coffee, could not drink until bowl was cool, but then the coffee was hot. No handles for bowl. I know it’s French, but I should have an option.

My breakfast (goat cheese and mushroom omelette) might have been one of the best breakfasts I have had at a restaurant in a long time. Very euro-esque. Omelette was slightly runny just the way I like it! So good! And my to-go latte and croissant were yummy as well. Delightful space and ambiance. Service was great! Definitely will remember this spot.

I had stopped here for breakfast before starting my day and had an amazing, fresh breakfast! I ended up ordering an egg croissant sandwich and coffee and it was very fresh, filling and flavorful! The price was also very reasonable with very quick and efficient service!

This is one of my favorite spots in the city! From the delicious food to ambience, to the fantastic staff, everything truly deserves 5 stars ⭐️ ! Especially Popi A. always brightens my day! Their mushroom quiche and warm grain bowl are must tries! I don’t even mention the finger licking baked goods such as their pistachio & apricot pie!

This was my first visit to this or any of the brand’s locations and I feel like I have been missing out.

In addition to being a well run business with good food and service, it was the only cafe open near DuPont circle on this Sunday morning of a blizzard. Starbucks, collective, Panera and kramer’s were ALL closed because of weather. I admire that Le pain figured out how to open on time during predicable snow storm when all the others just gave up.

Grant was my server and he was outstanding. Warm, friendly, knowledgeable, efficient.

I had oatmeal with berries which included a banana. Hot, tasty and wholesome. The endless pot of drip coffee was very flavorful. I also had an almond croissant that reminded me of ones I have had in Paris- flaky, almondy and fresh.

I’ll definitively be back next I’m in DuPont or next time I’m near any Le pain quotidian .

The food was fantastic, as were the coffee and hot chocolates that came in wonderful bowls. We were a group of 7, running late, and the staff really do a great job getting us settled and fed quickly, without compromising quality. Was loved the ambience and everything we ordered, salads, tartness, brioche french toast, was wonderful.

Perfect place to go for breakfast. The chicken soup is chunky, the sandwiches are rich in toppings, and the cold brew coffee has a wonderful aroma. Slightly pricey but worth it.

Server is lovely, the place looks amazing and it’s got a great atmosphere. Food is absolutely delicious and bordering on gourmet. Everything has really good sizing and the food gets to you pretty quick. Service in general is amazing, but our server was the nicest girl ever. 10/10 would absolutely come here again

In the past 6 months I’ve become a regular at Le Pain Quotidien (DuPont Circle), for a number of reasons:

It reminds me of home in a lot of ways….there’s a cosy, relaxed atmosphere and decor that brings me comfort and calms me, as if I were sitting at home back in New York, where I grew up.

The food and the staff provide me with the perfect motives to not leave. In particular, Aziz and Jorge both provide the kind of service that says “Thanks for visiting. I enjoy giving you a reason to come here and I hope you’ll come back.” Their attitude is attentive, never annoying, as they both consistently find a way to make the visit memorable. Yesterday I brought 2 friends in for their first visit, and they commented that when Aziz explained exactly what a “crookie” is, they couldn’t resist the temptation to explore one. And the crookies turned out to be outstanding. (Yes, I had one as well.)

And yes, all the food is simply wonderful!

We’ll be back again soon, of course…
