Great dining experience. Everything we ordered was delicious!

Ordered the escargot and shared with a friend and had great flavour-it was buttery and a strong garlic flavour which I love. Really enjoyed it despite being a bit scared since it was my first time having escargot.

Had the beef eye fillet with mushroom sauce and it was amazing. The sauce was rich in flavour and the beef was cooked perfectly to my liking.

My friend had the duck confit which was also great. The sauce was surprisingly sweet and the duck meat was perfectly pink inside.

They also served with a side of veggies. My favourite was the potatoes as it was a great carrier of my remaining mushroom sauce. They were so creamy and melted in your mouth each bite.

Wasn’t too sure what it would be like since the restaurant interior is quite old and outdated but pleasantly surprised my the food.

Low-key and cosy local restaurant. The ambience is charming and warm with soft lighting, rustic decor, and attentive staff. Foods are delicious, however the steak can get some improvement in softness. Overall the experience is wonderful. I would highly recommend!

We had the pleasure of dining here for our anniversary and were bitterly disappointed.

My partner is French and I went to France many times plus I have worked 4 years in a French restaurant and there’s is ONE thing where you can’t fail there! The bread (BAGUETTE)!

We were served with the cheapest Coles bread…
The duck was ok but not too good and the Veau avec champignon was 50 grams of chewy meat soaked in cream sauce and Mushroom.
The food were both accompanied with a single plate to share of tastless potatoes and carrots, overcooked broccoli and zucchini.
Sadly we decided to don’t take the desserts.

The price was absolutely too much for the quality and the amount.

The restaurant really reminds me of l France.

The owner was a true gentleman and very professional!

I won’t recommend this place to French or Italian people.

We went to this place for dinner as we found this French restaurant near home. The food was amazing and delicious! Service was welcoming, warm and nice! My partner ordered the eye fillet on the specials, which was cooked to perfection. I asked our waitress for a recommendation and she recommended the duck. It was delightful! Crunchy outside and tender inside with a delicate orange sauce. Wine was also good and dessert was delicious too. We both enjoyed our special meals and it was good value as well… I find pubs could be even more expensive for ordinary food.
Ambience was nice with french music, its decoration looks a bit old but still the dining experience was very enjoyable.
So, we’ll definitely come back to try other delights from their menu.

Ordered garlic bread, baked duck with orange souce, eye fillet with mushrooms and cognac sauce cooked medium rare, both mains come with scalloped potatoes and vegies to share. For dessert, crepe suzette flambé.

Went first time to celebrate my better half’s birthday. There were four of us for dinner. A pleasant surprise as the food was delicious and service excellent! Ambiance had a Gallic vibe even with French background music! We were full and thoroughly happy by the time we left. Will be back !

This dish is Chef’s special. A few smoke salmon and three prawns, lettuce and thousand island sauce. All can purchased from Coles. French chef.

Celebrated a birthday at Le Gaulois recently. You wouldn’t have known there was a French restaurant on the street if you weren’t looking for it! The decor felt like a pop up store with a few tables and chairs slapped awkwardly onto a room that is overdue for some updating or renovation. However, the French music and decor did help build abit of a rustic, homely vibe.

We had the escargots and garlic bread to start. The escargots didn’t have as much taste or flavor as I expected, but the garlic butter sauce was good. It was nice to have some bread come with it to go with the leftover sauce, however, wouldn’t recommend it. The garlic bread was recommended in a few other reviews and I do agree that it was good, but when they meant 2 pieces it was really 2 small slices.

For the mains, we had the orange duck and a beef fillet that was listed under the chef specials. The duck turned out great, with an excellent orange sauce. However, the beef fillet was abit mediocre and we regretted not ordering something more traditionally French instead.

For dessert we had the crepe Suzette. As simple as it looks, it tasted amazing and came with a quality scoop of ice cream. We enjoyed the spectacle of having it arrive in a blue flame as well.

Service was excellent and attentive, with a single waiter very capably attended to all 3 tables and constantly checking in to see if everything was alright.

Main negative for me would be the portion sizing/value. Was abit disappointing to receive my coke in tap form as well, which tasted like sparkling water as there possibly wasn’t adequate syrup added. Would have expected a bottle.

Overall, it’s abit mixed for me as I do like the joint but at the price point it is very hard to beat the other options out there with better ambience or portion sizing.

The food was very good, i loved the lamb. It was so tender and waste good with the roasted potatoes. I also had the duck, the orange sauce was a bit unique for me but it tasted nice. The waiters seemed nice, and the place being in a low-light environment fitted in well. I did think it was a bit expensive for the price of the food, but overall not bad. 9/10 for me.
