I recommend having reservations, even for a late lunch, it got crowded quickly.
Parking was difficult to find, there is no dedicated parking area, expect to walk a block or two to get here.
Plenty of room for wheelchair to navigate through.
Great bar selection and wine list!
I highly recommend the steak frites, escargot, and duck. The duck, in particular, has a subtle orangey note that’s unlike anything I’ve ever tasted — rich, balanced, and memorable. We’ve also tried the artichokes before, which weren’t really my favorite, but everything else has been consistently excellent.
The indoor dining room is elegant, but we’ve only ever sat outdoors, where the ambiance is just as lovely.
We love this place and will definitely be back!
The shrimp salad was good, but assorted oysters were dropped off without any explanation. Standards straight out the window. They were just average as well.
Duck breast and halibut(replacement for the lamb wellington) were underwhelming, with the halibut slightly overcooked.
Dessert was hit or miss. The profiterole was great, and the paris brest was forgettable.
Wine, beer, and expresso drinks were average like everything else.
The men’s restroom was absolutely disgusting. Urine all over the floor and dim lighting. You guys had about seven servers/waiters standing near the restrooms, next to the kitchen, and nobody checks the cleaniness of it regularly? If the restroom looks like that, it raises concerns about what’s happening behind the scenes.
Overall, not worth the price and would not recommend.
Didn’t really care for the foie gras although I couldn’t pinpoint why, normally a fan of it. Bread was just okay but cannot complain since it was complimentary. Overall, one of the best French restaurants I have been to.
The food and beverages were exceptional with a highlight on super fresh oysters and my favorite cocktail- Romarin.
Our server was incredibly attentive, making sure our glasses were never empty and explaining food to details.
But highlight of our night was the restaurant manager Hadia. She truly elevated the whole experience from the very first moment. As soon as we arrived she greeted us with celebratory drink and through the night she made sure that everything was just perfect for my birthday.
Hadia’s personal touch and dedication to creating a welcoming space made our meal unforgettable.
The next day my guests couldn’t speak highly enough about the whole experience.
Le Diplomate and Hadia many thanks for a perfect birthday!!
Since it was a gorgeous day in the 70s, I was especially grateful to sit outside on the covered patio and enjoy the afternoon.
The French onion soup was a highlight — one of the best I’ve had, it rivals Balthazar in New York City. The champagne was excellent, and the crème brûlée was the perfect finish to the meal.
The service was also very good.
I highly recommend this wonderful and vibrant French restaurant in the heart of D.C.
