Le coin Français is a restaurant really and truly for Franschhoek. Both in concept and in name, the aptly named “Le coin Français” , which literally means Franschhoek, will embody the essence of the valley in heritage, cuisine, art and wine. It will feature cutting edge methods meeting time tested French elegance in cuisine, a carefully selected locally themed wine list to showcase the best local wines, a French sommeliers selection, and an ever-evolving collaboration of art.

A very dedicated crew serves a solid and also innovative lunch or dinner with a well thought of wine pairing. My first but for sure not last visit to this Franschhoek restaurant.

Le Coin Franscais had been on my list for a while. With their listing on restaurant week, it was a beckoning.
The menu comprises an exceptional 7 course affair, with a extensively curated wine list.
Service was attentive, and the courses were well paced over a duration of two hours. While each course was carefully designed, the top of the list for me was the langoustine. Highly recommended.

Delicious food with fantastic service.
We did the 8 course menu and every dish was delicious. The one that stood out was definitely the Butter poached and BBQ north coast langoustine which is their signature dish.

The restaurant might be good, but we’ll never know.
We received the booking confirmation in October 2025 for February 2026, then they let me know in January 2026 that they will be closed the day of my reservation and they tell me that they are unable to refund the reservation fee and I should reverse it through my bank (?!)
After they e-mailed me in October 2025 I immediately replied that we were not able to postpone the reservation, as we had a tight schedule during our trip. I didn’t get a response from their side, nor a cancellation notification. After that I officially cancelled my booking end of January and I haven’t received the refund until now.
It was because of the restaurants organization, that we had to cancel and were unable to enjoy the experience at Le Coin Francais. It’s totally unacceptable to put the burden on the customer!

Excellent dinner to close off fine dining trip on Easter Sunday. Chef prepared a tasting menu with several Easter themed courses( homemade Hot Cross buns with raisin butter, pickled fish, dessert with speckled egg crumb, and more). Everything was top notch from the food to the service. Just missed the sunflower seed risotto which remains one of my favourite dishes ever.

The dining experience was just fantastic! We selected the extended Chef’s choice menu which included two additional surprise courses. All courses were very tasty. My favorite dish was their signature dish – Butter poached and BBQ north coast langoustine. This dish is to die for!
The wine pairing was spot on and with a professional sommelier! Thanks for the dining experience.

We went for dinner at 6pm , were welcomed in and the menus explained. We chose the standard menu with wine and non-alcoholic pairings and cheese. Bread and special butters started us off. I kept some of mine for the sauces later. There followed an amuse bouche then the mini hand towels. The sommelier got us started with our first drinks and everything was explained as we went along, with various team members taking it in turn to do the serving. The langoustine dish is the signature dish and it is the best. We then had a load shedding event, but that didn’t stop the food, just the coffee. The atmosphere improved in the darker restaurant. The non-alcoholic pairing was rather basic unfortunately but the food superb. The cheese course took us by surprise when we were given a large spoon. It was a cooked cheese dish and delightful too. Thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

Service was nice, seating also nice, a bit too close to neighbours. What sadly was a disappointment was the food. The menu sounds incredible. Unfortunately the food lacked taste and simply felt not special. Also there’s 12,5% tip added automatically which makes payment unnecessarily awkward. Too expensive for this experience.

Amazing tasting menu, I would recommend getting the 6 portion option and sharing with your significant other by each of you getting opposite portions. That way you can try almost all items on the menu and have the best dining experience possible. Decor is fantastic and service is also top notch! Highly recommend adding this to your Franschhoek itinerary!
