The Maydell’s Wander
This was our second visit to Le Chef. We first dined here about two years ago for dinner and absolutely loved the experience, which is why we decided to return last month for lunch.

Unfortunately, this visit was a bit different. We were seated inside at the second table from the far end corner, and no one advised us that it becomes extremely hot in that area during lunchtime. The heat became quite uncomfortable. I actually felt short of breath and couldn’t finish my meal because it felt quite suffocating.

In terms of the food, we ordered the risotto, snails, and a sandwich. The snails and the sandwich were fantastic, both were well prepared and very enjoyable. However, the risotto wasn’t quite to my taste as it seemed to have too much wine and was noticeably salty.

For future visits, it would be helpful if customers were informed about the temperature inside during busy or warmer lunch hours, as it can significantly affect the dining experience.

Overall, we still appreciate the quality of some dishes, but this visit did not match the comfort and enjoyment of our first experience.

Atmosphere: Delightful street seating. Service: Good. Food: Ok, but not great .. Calamari was Excellent, Fish came luke warm and over cooked and Beef also over cooked. Good portion sizes. Drinks were ok though a bit too sweet for our liking. Might have been a bad day in the kitchen.

Had a wonderful dining experience here in Auckland!
I tried the roast chicken special with a beer, and everything was absolutely delicious. The chicken was cooked perfectly – juicy, flavourful, and clearly made with care.

I came with a friend of mine who is a chef, and even they were genuinely impressed by the quality and attention to detail. You can really tell when food is made with passion and pride.

Great food, great atmosphere, and a place I’d happily come back to.
Highly recommend if you’re looking for a cosy French spot with honest, well-executed dishes

We just had the best experience here for lunch. The chef ‘practised’ his daily specials on us. We had complementary slow cooked short rib with veges and red velvet cake with home preserves and ice cream. Taking away our ordered yummy duck terrine and pork bites. Lovely food, lovely chef and staff.

I really like this restaurant. The portions are significant, and if you want to try a bit of everything, it’s good to share. I ordered scargot with garlic (delicious ), risotto and chicken casserole

All the food paired perfectly with the wine. Everything was delicious, so I ended up drinking a little too much
The staff were very friendly and made the place feel so welcoming and comfortable.

Cosy little restaurant. Good ambiance, no loud music, soft warm light. We ordered two entrees and two mains. Everything was delicious, and the portion was very generous. The waiter offered to take a couple of photos for us too.

Lovely little cafe that has quirky decor.

Only stopped in for coffee with my niece. Wasn’t busy and we could chat peacefully in private.
