Reviews
The fries were excellent. Great crisp and the truffle mayo is thick and rich. Nothing to improve.
La Mano Bucatini had good texture but the taste of the duck was not quite as strong as I expected. If I was blindfolded I might not be able to recognize what protein I was served. I recommend a different pasta than bucatini. It was cooked unevenly and did not compliment the bolognese well. Perhaps a tagliatelle or something that soaks up the sauce better.
The Banana Cheesecake was nice but didn’t live up to the hype. The brulee on top of the banana slid right off so it would have been more efficient if they fried the banana on a pan with sugar. The miso was barely noticeable.
The Lemon Ricotta Cappelletti had fine texture but overall the flavours were muted and unbalanced only punctuated by the sharpness of the lemon. The texture is also off. If they want the crunch of the toasted hazelnuts they should be broken up finer. This was by far the worst dish I tried and needs more work.
Owner was very friendly and shared of their potential plans to open for brunch which will be a welcome addition to the neighborhood. They also offer a late night happy hour that we’ll try to hit sometime soon.
Photos are the shrimp toast and coquilles saint Jacques
We started with some cocktails and both were just ok. Not really full flavour or interesting.
We split two appetizers with the pate en croũte and it was really pretty when presented but really had no flavour. The pickle in the salad was the best part is the dish. We also had the scallops which were served in a shell and had truffle mashed potatoes and looked beautiful and it was tasty. The scallops were cut up so small tastes inside the mash which would have been better to have a perfect single scallop and a side of mash.
We had the duck bocatini which was a pasta and it was nothing special as the noodles were chewy and the duck you almost didn’t know was in there. We asked for pepper to add some punch as it was very mild. We had a chocolate cake with berries and brown butter ice cream and the ice cream was the best part.
The staff was lovely and kind. The ambiance was ok the music didn’t feel like anything to match the restaurant and over all it was a underwhelming dinner. If you want a great French experience I’d choose cassis all day but wanted to try something new. Has potential but if you have a small menu. Waitress told us this was more European fusion and a bit misleading and a missed opportunity when Branding as a French restaurant. Review not intended to be anything other than helpful and honest and hope this place can grow. We spent 160 for our evening.
We ordered the biscuits (the butter, is unreal) and the beef tartare for appetizers and for our mains we had the trout and the schinizel. Everything was absolutely delicious. For drinks, we had the espresso martini, and I had a red wine.
The fireplace outside really set the mood and made the whole evening feel extra special.
Tyler was amazing, and we also met his brother — both were so friendly and welcoming. The guys did a wonderful job.
We’ll definitely be back.
