Starters are delicious off course: escargot is up to par with the best, but do not skip on the salade lyonnaise and especially the fois gras crème brûlée – a unique dish with a light airy texture paired with crunchy caramelized sugar only seen on the very best crème brûlées.
The mussels are an absolute bargain – a massive plate of delicious mussels for 25$ paired with the most delightful bistro style French fries. We went with the classic marinière which was better than most I have had all over Normandie, and next time I will try the saffron mussels.
Don’t skimp on the burgers either – this place has never been on any burger list and yet it’s an awesome burger. We ran the French onion soup burger – a massive thick patty with melty Swiss cheese and bacon dipped in the most amazing soft and flavorful French onion dip. This is a flavor explosion paired with an AWESOME helping of fries and salad for once again a price of 20-28$.
The restaurant gave us complimentary limoncello shots and a free crème brûlée for dessert – a fantastic end to a brilliant dinner.
The decor, the vibes, and everything about le baratin whispers “you will eat great food here”. Nothing pompous, no weird two bite starters, no small portions, just hearty and soulful French bistro flavors.
Enjoy – one of my top French in the city 😉
After vetting on gluten free eating websites, I thought I would be safe. The waitress seemed knowledgable and was able to specifically name everything on the menu that could be made gluten free. I did specifically ask how safe the kitchen would be due to the severity of my situation. After putting in my order, she came back to inform me that fries I ordered would be cross contaminated due to a shared cooking space. She proceeded to walk away without providing an alternative. We were able to stop her and get that half of my meal swapped. I ate my meal and proceeded to have a reaction that kept me out of work the following day and needing to leave my shift early the next day. I will never dine here again and do not recommend anyone with an allergy dine here due to the staffs clear lack of care for their patrons with food sensitivities.
