We had an awesome time. This is an outdoor establishment so be aware of the heat. Realized our fan was not at the highest setting so fixed that and it was more comfortable. The biggest issue which tends to happen in outdoor eateries is the flies which happens to be a trigger for our oldest. The quality of the food and service more than compensated for this inconvenience in my opinion. Like that they had cornhole which I would check out when waiting for the next round of AYCE snow crab! We had a good time and look forward to the next visit.

I’ve driven down Hunter Rd most of my life & took notice a few years back that this place has been done up. Finally decided to try it and I’m glad I did. I’m a huge fan of eating Fried, grilled or blackened catfish. I was blown away by the taste and texture of their Catfish. It was the Best yet, that I have eaten. My husband who isn’t a fan of Catfish at all, was also blown away by a forced taste test. Turned out he ended up eating half of it. That should speak volumes to how good it is. It was served over white sticky rice and I had the etouffe on the side. I will say I’m more of a rice pilaf gal, however the white rice actually balanced out the taste and the heat of the Cajun blackened catfish. Since it was our first time here, My husband ordered the hamburger to play it safe. He said it was good, but agreed he was impressed w/the Catfish. The overall ambiance of the location is very very casual and feels as if your in your own backyard. We went in and it was just the chef & waiter working. The waiter was a young HS student, however he was very attentive and pleasant to just have a casual conversation with as we ate. As it was w/the Chef, who went on to explain why the catfish we ate was delicious. He explained It was a Yellow catfish, which obviously makes a Huge difference in taste. For dessert we had their banana pudding and it was delicious. I took half of it home to let my picky daughter try it. She gobbled it right up and left the bowl clean. We are definitely going back. Maybe will try the King Crab legs or Aligator

Very nice atmosphere and kid and pet friendly. Live music was fun and didn’t overpower the experience. Crawfish were a little over cooked and under seasoned but still good for the area. Boiled shrimp were excellent.

A friend told me about Lazy J and we decided to try it yesterday.
The crawfish and shrimp have great flavors. Definitely took care of my cravings.
The staff was helpful and the food was brought out quickly.
It’s BYOB, so bring your cooler. Also only some of the tables had umbrellas, not sure if more umbrellas were available.
As we were leaving, the manager told us there would be a band playing later and they would also be serving barbecued alligator. Unfortunately I could not make it back.

Absolutely best crawfish I have had. I love traveling and I can say these are even better than what I’ve had through out Louisiana. Great out door patio and the live band gave it a fantastic ambiance. Staff is super friendly, professional and on point. I highly recommend stopping in and giving it a try.

My friends and I were looking for a good crawfish/ Crab leg place to go and eat in New Braunfels Texas, and needless to say we were not at all pleased by Lazy J. First off customer service was great but when we got to the food portion that’s where it went south. We got an order of boudin and it was bland, it had no flavor and my friend said it tasted gritty and like it came from Walmart . Secondly we got elote and that was probably the best part of our meal, it was creamy and very flavorful. We ordered all you can eat crab legs and the first batch was very yummy and pleasing but then the second batch was uncooked and ice cold to the touch . Our 4 pounds of crawfish that we ordered came out and they were very dirty not washed at all. We didn’t let that discourage us but when it came to trying the crawfish is again had absolutely no flavor and tasted uncooked, the tails were black after peeling away the shell, and it was an immediate no for us all. We also ordered the Cajun chicken sandwiches and my friends didn’t even finish them, the meat was still pink and AGAIN they said it had no flavor and the flavor it did has was gritty and was not enjoyable. We will not be going back to lazy j for seafood anymore, again the customer service was great but the food overall was very displeasing and had us wanting to leave after the first two bites.

Well, how would one ever explain this place. Perhaps “diamond in the rough”? We drove by this establishment on the way to San Marcos. Honestly it was pretty nondescript. Didn’t really look like much from the main road and I didn’t give it a second thought. After taking care of a little business in San Marcos, I told my partner in crime that I was hungry and wanted to eat. While I was googling local eateries, she suggested Lazy J Cajun. I hummed and hawed but gave in and away we went.
We parked in the front of the building and walked to the entrance around back and were blown away!!! The atmosphere is rustic with picnic tables and plenty of shade to sit in. There was even a beautiful stage on site so it would stand to figure that live music happened there as well. We ordered nachos while we scoured the menu trying to decide what we wanted to eat. The wait staff were incredible and everyone was so very friendly. A gentleman whom I presume to be the owner, talked to us and thanked us for stopping by. He let us know that their liquor license was forthcoming but for now it was BYOB if that is what we wanted. Luckily, we had a couple a bottles of Moscato in tow so that worked out great! While we were trying to decide what to order, another patron dropped a large tray of crawfish off to both us and the table beside us saying it was too much for them to eat. I can see why!!!! it was the first time I had ever had crawfish and once word got out about this, I reached celebrity status!
After trying the crawfish (and loving it) our food arrived. We ordered some seafood platter thing with jumbo shrimp, crab legs, corn and potatoes. The food was absolutely fantastic!!!
Just when we thought the experience couldn’t get any better, a band called “Off the Grid” set up and started playing. This quick stop for a bite to eat was now going on a five hour extravaganza! The band was fantastic and incredibly entertaining. Our waitress brought us some banana pudding which ended up being the best I had ever had.
There is really no way to accurately portray how fun this adventure to Lazy J Cajun’s was but we are certain to become regulars for sure! Thank you to everyone we met there for making our afternoon one of the most memorable evenings in recent memory. Great food, fantastic entertainment, friendly ambiance, extremely fair pricing all came together to make for a perfect way to spend an afternoon and evening!

What great food! The food here will not disappoint. I will definitely be returning.
The blacked catfish was so tasty. The banana pudding was off the the charts. The crawfish was very good as well. They will be having outside entertainment when the weather is warmer.

Had a really great first time experience here! We had the jumbo shrimp with corn and potatos and crawfish, both were delicious. Ask about the remoulade sauce, it’s really good as well. Outdoor/Backyard vibe. They had a band there and that went really well with the setting. The staff was very friendly and attentive as well.
