We visited Laverne’s with a party of six and overall had a really enjoyable experience.

We started with appetizers and all three were solid choices. The pretzel was delicious, and the onion rings were a standout. Perfectly crispy with a smooth, panko style breading and that dipping sauce was excellent. Definitely ask for extra. The carne asada steak fries were also very good and easy to share.

From the brunch menu, the birria tots were a 10 out of 10 for our table. Everything on that plate was seasoned well and worked together beautifully. The chilaquiles were good, about a 7 out of 10 for us. We added steak, which helped, but they did not quite hit the same high as the birria tots. The Nutella dream cakes were enjoyable and landed around a 7 to 8 out of 10, especially for our daughter.

From the lunch menu, we tried the torta ahogada with carnitas, which was a miss for us. On the other hand, the Laverne burger with egg and bacon was very good. The bun was buttery and flavorful, the burger patty was well cooked, and the egg was perfect. The bacon was a bit fattier and not as crispy as expected, but overall it was still a solid burger.

We also had a couple of mixed drinks, which were good. The service was very kind and friendly, but a bit slow. There was an opportunity for additional drink orders that just did not quite happen, which could easily elevate the experience even more.

Parking was easy with plenty of options, which is always appreciated.

Overall, great food, especially the appetizers and brunch items, friendly service, and a comfortable spot to gather. We would absolutely return, especially for brunch.

My family has been to Lavergnes many times. The food’s been good and they usually have some decent beer on tap. This last time we went something was off. The sandwich I ordered was not good. My wife wasn’t happy with her food either. The service was poor. We waiting and waited for our server to stop by for some items we needed. We could see him hanging out in the back but weren’t able to catch his eye. Finally we had to ask another staff member to ask him to stop by. I’m not sure if management changed or they’re using different vendors but it wasn’t the same experience at all, which sucks cause I like having a decent gastropub in the area. Also, they need to put the steak sandwich back on the menu. The prime rib sandwich is tasteless and an unworthy replacement.

Lavergne’s is a hidden gem! The Italian beef egg rolls were super flavorful and crispy, and the birria grilled cheese sandwich was next-level delicious—so cheesy and packed with tender meat. The cheese curds were perfectly fried and addictive. On top of the great food, the service was awesome—friendly, attentive, and quick. Definitely coming back!

Lavergne’s Tavern has been my go-to spot since I moved over this way. I usually order out — the bar/restaurant itself is fine, just not the most comfortable seating, and the drinks are a little pricey (but they are made well). The wait staff definitely feels stretched at times, so you can end up going a while without being checked on. Delivery/pickup, though, is super fast and always hot.

The chicken is on a whole different level — we eat it constantly lol. Most of the menu is stupid good. Only a couple things weren’t for me (like the flatbread or pierogis), but everything else hits every time. The birria grilled cheese is another must-grab. Portions are big, and for what you get, the price is pretty solid.

Some of the most unique and delicious food I’ve had in a while. Definitely recommend bringing your appetite. We ordered as a group nearly the entire appetizer menu and something from each of the different dinner categories. Absolutely great service, our server answered all of our questions. Food came out much faster than you would expect fresh, hot, perfect presentation!

We went early in a Friday night, which was nice because the restaurant part was not busy.

We got a burger to split, which they did for us, wings, and cheese curds.

The atmosphere was calming and dark, which I love! There are TVs in the dining area, but more in the bar area.

Parking was fine, but in sure it can get busy during high times.

I would definitely go back and try more things. The waitress raves about the egg rolls. So that’s next on my list.

Review of Laverne’s Tavern – Berwyn’s Hidden Gem

Laverne’s Tavern is an absolute hidden gem in Berwyn. With easy parking and a great location, this spot delivers an exceptional take on classic American bar food—except they’ve perfected it and elevated it to a whole new level.

From the moment we sat down, everything we ordered was spot on. This isn’t just your typical bar food; it’s bar food done right in a comfortable, restaurant-style environment.

We started with the Italian beef eggrolls, and wow—these blew my socks off. Scoring a solid 9.2/10, they were exactly what you’d imagine: a Chicago-style Italian beef wrapped in a crispy wonton roll, deep-fried to perfection, and served over a bed of arugula with a delicious house-made Italian dressing. This dish is an absolute must-try if you’re in the area.

Next, we had the chicken wings, which earned an impressive 8.7/10. Served plain with Buffalo sauce on the side and a house-made ranch, these wings were not breaded, fried to crispy perfection, and cooked just right on the inside. The oil tasted fresh, and the Buffalo sauce, seemingly a variation of Frank’s Hot Sauce with an added kick, complemented them perfectly.

The Depot sliders were another hit, scoring 8.9/10. Served on soft brioche buns with caramelized onions, crispy bacon, and tangy barbecue sauce, they were absolutely delicious. These sliders embody everything great about comfort food without the guilt or heaviness you might expect from typical bar fare.

Finally, the classic burger did not disappoint, coming in at 8.7/10. Cooked to a perfect medium-well (just my preference) and topped with provolone cheese, it was juicy and flavorful. The house fries deserve special mention—they’re not your average frozen fries; they’re made in-house, fresh, and full of flavor, which really adds to the overall experience.

This is also a kid-friendly establishment, so don’t let the name fool you—it’s more of a restaurant than a tavern, offering a welcoming and family-friendly atmosphere.

If you’re in Berwyn and craving top-tier bar food that feels fresh and thoughtfully prepared, Laverne’s Tavern is the place to be. Whether you’re in the mood for indulgent appetizers or a hearty burger, you won’t walk away disappointed.

Went in on a rainy raucous Friday night. It’s was definitely busy but we were able to walk in and get a table for 6. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable and they had many tasty and interesting food combinations.
I feel it was a bit too long of a wait to order drinks and even longer to order food. I ended up getting a drink I asked about but didn’t want because it was to loud for him to hear me say “I’ll think about it”
Food itself was pretty good. The Italian beef egg rolls to me were a genius idea but just lacked the punch of giardinera and didn’t even feel or taste any of the cheese. Very generous size and beef portion though.
Burger had pretty good flavor, but out fries were all so small and limp. They were left unfinished. The kids meal did have a nice touch with the apple sauce and lollipop.

I’m really disappointed with our experience. We were at the restaurant from 1–7pm and were cut off from ordering drinks even though we hadn’t had much — just a couple of shots per hour, and no one in our group was being loud or disrespectful. The manager made us feel as if we weren’t going to pay our bill, which was insulting and completely uncalled for.

What made the situation even worse was that it felt racially discriminatory. We’re all educated professionals and business owners who were simply trying to enjoy our day responsibly, yet we were treated unfairly and made to feel unwelcome. Our server was absolutely amazing and handled everything professionally, but the way management treated us completely ruined what should have been a good experience.
