We asked the waitress if she had Casa Del Sol tequila and she said “oh clase azul?” To the guy who ordered…. I said “it’s called Casa Del Sol.” Very clearly. I understand that it sounds similar, but it’s a HUGE difference! She went ahead and served us from a $150 dollar bottle of tequila, when what we were requesting was a $60 bottle of tequila. We did NOT expect to pay $80 for 3 shots of tequila and that is NOT what we ordered.
She did the same exact thing to one of the gals who ordered “cocktail de camarón” and EVEN POINTED to it on the menu!!! The waitress brought out shrimp soup, not shrimp cocktail. Yes, they sound similar on the menu, but they are completely different!
These were NOT actual mistakes, the waitress KNEW what she was doing. She had NO patience for white people and was NOT happy to be there and do her job.
We felt like a total inconvenience for being there all night. She never filled up our salsa, she hardly checked up on us and when she did, she would listen to only one request and run away before we could finish our requests.
I have NEVER felt like an inconvenience at a restaurant before and NEVER felt so racially profiled before. She did not care at all!
When I told her about the tequila issue, she rolled her eyes at me and told me she repeated it back and that’s what we ordered…. That was NOT what we ordered, let me make that CLEAR! This is STEALING from your guests and not taking care of them.
Food was great- good job to the chef! I will never be back to a place I feel unwelcomed at. If the owner would like to refund us, I will consider removing my review, otherwise, I will know this place is here to mistreat you and steal from you.
And I’m not one to leave bad reviews! I usually ONLY leave reviews when I am leaving a positive one…. This waitress just did it in for me and I hate to, but people should know this place doesn’t treat white people with respect and steals from them by serving them things that are 3x the cost of what they actually ordered.
Also the brunch is pretty fantastic! Highly recommend the breakfast potatoes!
Breakfast (9-3) serves eggs; Chorizo; Menudo; Migas; Pancakes; French Toast, and even a Mimosa!
Allan & I wanted to eat lite and check out a couple of appetizers.
We ordered the large 5 scoops guacamole, a small cup of queso, and the appetizer of chicken quesadillas (4 triangles) with caramelized onions, bell peppers, chicken & cheddar cheese. The chicken was cubed, tender, and delicious, and the onions were beautifully caramelized! However, the bell peppers were missing. Too bad.
The queso seemed to be Velveeta; the red salsa had a slight kick, but Allan could eat it, so it wasn’t too spicy. Next time, I’ll ask if they have a verde salsa; I like serrano-hot salsa!
Our server was polite and checked on us throughout our meal.
The Ladies Room – I think it was clean, but it was so dimly lit. It was difficult to see. Also, the building it not new. Therefore, I think the pipes have a sewer pressure issue.
Allan said the Men’s Room was clean and brightly lit.
Would I go back to LaRocas?
Yes, but I want to try the Chicken Tortilla Soup, the breakfast, or an Italian lunch.
We ordered from the dinner menu, but I didn’t get photos. Will post the menu next time!
We had to return 3 times to get order correct.
Our eggs were so full with oil you could literally cook about 5 more eggs .
I called and they tell me “what are we gonna do”
We went back again after COVID. They have done minor remodeling and made minor editions to the menu. Service and food are very good. Recommend.
Update to review. This has been our go to restaurant for years. But the last three times the waitstaff, table clearers, cooks, bar tenders, all employees we saw were not wearing masks or are wearing them down around their necks. The manager didn’t care when we talked to him. We will not go back until after the pandemic is over. My health is worth more than a good meal.
Stand alone restaurant with ample parking if you include the neighboring stores. Pretty amazing selection of items on the menu. Staff was very nice and attentive. Restaurant and bathrooms are well maintained and clean. Food was very good. Absolutely no complaints. Highly Recommend
I pulled up expecting chips and salsa, but was immediately greeted by the outdoor staff. And by “staff,” I mean a frantic ecosystem of large, enthusiastic rodents who seem to run the front of house. I’m not sure if the guy sitting on the curb was the manager or their king, but they were definitely taking orders from him.
I tried to walk toward the door, but three of the “greeters” started sizing up my ankles like they were appetizers. One of them actually looked me in the eye and squeaked, which I’m pretty sure translates to, “You gonna finish that hubcap?”
The food might be great inside, but I’ll never know. I was too busy negotiating a peace treaty with the sidewalk wildlife just to get back to my car.
