The project, spearheaded by the owners of Queen Street staple Pour Girls, aims to deliver an elevated Tex-Mex experience that adds welcome culinary variety to a street largely known for its successful American-style eateries.
Upon entering, guests are greeted by a colorful and energetic interior. Hand-painted murals and custom wall and booth art line the space, while rich dark-purple ambient lighting and oversized dome fixtures cast a warm glow over the bar and dining areas. The result is a space that feels both lively and inviting, with a distinctive artistic flair.
The menu features a well-curated selection of familiar Tex-Mex staples alongside a creative assortment of cocktails and a thoughtfully chosen liquor selection. The standout of the meal was the street tacos—easily among the best I’ve had in the area. In particular, the corn, house-made, tortillas were absolutely perfect: soft, slightly crisp, flavorful, and clearly prepared with care.
To accompany the tacos, I ordered the “Patio Spritz,” a tequila-based cocktail finished with cucumber, mint, lime, and soda. The drink was crisp, light, and refreshing, with the tequila balanced so well that it never overpowered the bright, herbal notes.
Even for a soft opening, where minor hiccups are often expected, the atmosphere, service, and food were all fantastic—something that’s rarely the case on day one.
It’s exciting to see Las Reinas Cocina arrive on Queen Street, as a fresh injection of cuisine has been long overdue for this bustling dining destination. If the quality showcased during the soft opening is any indication of what’s to come, the future looks incredibly promising for this vibrant new restaurant.
My partner and I both ordered the chili con carne burrito, and neither of us finished it. The deep-fried chili burrito just didn’t work for us, though that may come down to personal preference.
The guacamole was also disappointing because it didn’t seem to have much seasoning or flavor. The elote, however, was excellent and was easily the best thing we ordered.
Another frustrating part was the chips. They only give you about seven chips with your dip, which meant my partner and I had to split a small handful between the two of us. When we asked for more chips, we were told it would cost an additional $2.
Overall, the elote was great, but the very mushy rice, underwhelming dishes, and the small chip portion made the experience pretty disappointing.
On our first visit, the food was okay overall. I tried the smoked brisket nachos and my husband had a burrito, while the portion size was great and it looked good, the brisket itself was a bit dry. The drinks were good and the atmosphere at the bar was nice and relaxed, which made it an enjoyable place to sit and try something new.
We decided to come back for a second visit for our anniversary today, but unfortunately the experience wasn’t much better. I ordered the fish tacos and the fish was very dry. I also found a hair in my food, which definitely ruined the meal for me.
The restaurant has a nice vibe and the drinks were good both times, but the food quality and consistency need improvement. We’re were really hoping this was going to be our new go to spot.
