(Detailed photos because i suggest you coming and trying it out!)
If you love seafood and it to be accurate to Nayarit style seafood this is the place for you! ✌ From our very first visit to now our third time going, La Islas en Ponchos has officially become one of our favorite seafood spots.
First Visit:
The first time we came, we ordered the Seafood Bolsita #2, octopus and shrimp ceviche, and the shrimp empanadas with cheese — and wow. The seafood bag had great flavor (a little spicy for me yes, I’m Mexican and still don’t like spicy food lol), but it was still delicious. The ceviche was SUPER fresh with shrimp, octopus, avocado, tomato, onion, and plenty of crackers. Everything tasted clean and flavorful.
The shrimp empanadas with cheese? Absolutely amazing. Crispy on the outside, packed with shrimp, and they come with that creamy cheese dip that tastes kind of like a fry sauce. You can get them without cheese for cheaper, but with cheese is definitely worth it.
We left that first visit already planning to come back.
Third Visit:
By our third time, we went all out and ordered a lot of food again. I tried the Pasta Costa Brava, and I loved it. It comes with shrimp, two open mussels, and a big piece of garlic bread. The sauce is creamy, rich, and very filling. One of my favorites so far.
We ordered the shrimp empanadas again (because they’re a must every time), and my boyfriend got the octopus glazed in garlic sauce, which comes loaded with fries, salad, rice, and tortillas. The octopus was tender and flavorful, and the portions are generous.
We also tried the botanas mejillones (mussels) — I counted about 16 pieces! Great flavor with onions and sauce, perfect for sharing.
They always bring complimentary chips and salsa, and I love that the salsa isn’t too spicy. The waiters are super nice and attentive, and the atmosphere is very welcoming and comfortable.
The only small downside is that drink refills cost the same as buying another drink, so just keep that in mind. But honestly, the quality and portions make it worth it.
Overall, the food is fresh, flavorful, and consistent. The portions are generous, and every visit has been a great experience. The fact that we’ve gone three times already says everything — we’ll definitely keep coming back!
