Back in the day, 60’s, Felix Tijerina offered to help him get started, share his recipes; and Ninfa Laurenzo offered to help his business get started if he would source her for his nixtamal, tortillas and other products.
Today I had an opportunity to come here to try a bowl of their chii. I remember a previous visit where I spied a meat grinder in their kitchen learning that they grind their meat in the house.
Their chili con carne is a true and authentic “taste of Texas”. A layer of oil. A heavy cumin taste. A flavor profile that guarantees heartburn and reflux. Melt in your mouth tender meat.
Ambiance. Like going back in time.
Still one of the coolest t-shirts in Texas.

These folks lived up to the billing. This is true Tex-mex food and I’m here for it!

Y’all. I was reading a freaking 1 * review of this place and thought “wow. this person is really upset at this restaurant for just existing. It must be a reflection of who they are as a person and not actually of this fine dining establishment.” Then I saw the person who wrote it was MY MOM. ♀
First of all, she’s dead wrong. Her review has nothing to do with this restaurant and everything to do with her unhealed childhood trauma. If you think she’s critical of Larry’s, try being her daughter.
Second, my husband and I cannot think of a better way to unwind after a workday than tucking into Larry’s fresh hot salsa and delicious perfectly seasoned fajitas. Larry’s has THE world’s best cheese enchiladas. I’ve been getting their fajita taco dinner for 30 years and it tastes the exact same: perfection, the ultimate comfort food. Their caramelized onions are what taught me to love onions as a kid.
The service is always exceptional and the staff is friendly and exceedingly professional.
My husband and I love the ambiance, I hope they never change it, it’s so relaxing. It’s cool and quiet but not to quiet and perfectly dim but not dark. I cannot stress what a pleasurable sensory experience this place is for the easily overstimulated, especially after a long hard day.
Larry’s is a heart and soul Richmond institution and I hope they are for decades to come. It’s where the locals eat, but anyone from the Greater Houston area in need of Tex-Mex excellence will not be disappointed, unless they are as unhealed as my mom.

Alert There is a 4% charge on the credit card. It doesn’t matter how much you spend up there. They still charge you 4% which according to me is not right I spent 80 bucks and they charge me 4%. Food was good chips and salsa are the best we had chicken quesadillas, which was very moist. We had fajitas, but it had more onions in there. Service was terrible three times we have to water hot water with lemon, but they kept bringing it with cold water. They should not charge 4% credit card fees.

Fairly, nice place until you have to use the restroom. Apparently the owners don’t believe in cleaning or capital expenditures. No. I won’t be returning here to eat or see if they’ve improved.

One of my favorites. Have been coming here my whole life. A family run restaurant since the 1960s. The staff are amazing and make sure tips and dip are always on the table. My favorite every single time is the beef enchiladas you can’t go wrong with them. The queso is amazing as well so try to order that when you come. Just very good hometown Tex-Mex that has been here for generations and hopefully many more generations to come.

Hard to beat a good plate of classic Tex Mex and Larry’s does a great job with that. Thin, crispy chips served with a flavorful salsa. Could be a little spicier, but still a solid salsa. I had the #1 lunch special. Cheese enchilada, crispy taco and queso tostada. Served with rice and beans. All tasty and served with a a smile. Wished I lived closer to come more often.

Family run business since 1960. Sunday supper time on Mother’s Day. Open seating…just find a table. Was served chips and dip twice, both times they were warm. Ordered two enchilada meals that come with three enchilada’s, rice and beans. The rice was made differently than most places we have eaten at…which had great flavor. Very large cups for iced tea. Also had a children’s quesadilla with rice and beans. Down to Earth place with great food at a fair price. Definately worth a return visit.
