We were @ L‘Arnbourg last year and I have to confirm: It is even better now!

For us definetly „1 ⭐️ Michelin“ level.

Also the service team is very kind, attentive and very professional – „King‘s Man“ style (very discreet).

The hotel is worth it to mention. Nice interior, very spacious, fantastic view to the forest and a professional team.

Thanks for the nice 2 days/nights!

We‘ll come again soon…

Our second visit after many years. We are generally looking for excellent Michelin star food and French wine.

The hotel and it’s surroundings are absolutely beautiful. It’s a super calm place. Hide yourself within the beauty of the forest.
The very warm welcome led to a beautiful (classic) room of superb quality. We really enjoyed the room and the warm and friendly staff. Wherever you look it’s of best quality and design. Great!
The restaurant is absolutely beautiful with all its precious details.

Unfortunately the dinner did not meet our expectations. We are frequent visitors of Michelin star restaurants all over Europe as this is with 90% guarantee the way to find outstanding cooks.

In L’Arnsbourg there is the special situation where a 3 stars service meets a below 1 star cook. That said, the service was outstanding from all parts of the friendly team.

We were a little irritated to find Oyster, Octopus, Tuna and Homard within the beauty of Northern Alsace. Today’s successful Michelin star chefs usually focus on authentic and local ingredients, wonderful variety of textures and intense aromatics.

We could not find one of this within the menu. Many dishes were nicely arranged but did not taste at all.

The oyster (which comes as a standard) I got was disappointing. Please skip this senseless dish and do some local surprise from the forest.

We felt the cook failed to work out the specialities of each dish. In my opinion standard Tuna (which does usually not have any taste) is a way to surrender.

Mackerel (Alsace?) was ok but bit boring, Fois gras quite good, duck not more than usual, no crunch, medium soft.

The wine list is interesting, but in my opinion very overpriced. Hard to find good wines outside Alsace varieties below €150,-. The typical Alsace wines character did not match the menu at all. 170 Euros for a 45 Euro (amazing!) Condrieu? Well, it’s your decision…..

In today’s time, many French Michelin star restaurants are focused on very good wines around 60-120 Euro. Wines above € 100,-, also in France, are hard to sell. Keep this in mind to be successful with 1 Michelin star.

Finally the simple deserts were pure sugar and disappointing. Strawberry with Olive, nice to read, tasted like marmelade without any olive note.

Hey guys, you don’t serve meringue in 2024 anymore /-)? This is from 2000 and before.

Over all I come to the conclusion that the cook (which did not show up) is of very traditional old school cooking style. I found many parts of the menu to be outdated in modern times. Lacks of taste and especially texture varieties.

Again, service and hotel are excellent!
But you probably won’t travel to L’Arnsbourg for standard holidays.

I wish you great success for the future with a young and fully focused cook to meet clients expectations. Your beautiful house is definitely worth it!!
