We also ordered the Persian cucumber appetizer, which was crisp, refreshing, and packed with flavor. The dumplings were excellent as well. Both the pork and shrimp and pork and leek dumplings were very juicy, with wrappers that were just right, not too thick or too thin.
The atmosphere is simple and casual. Nothing fancy, but clean and comfortable. Service was a tier above what you typically expect at a neighborhood Chinese restaurant. Attentive, efficient, and friendly without being overbearing.
Food: 4.5/5
Service: 4.5/5
Ambiance: 4/5
Overall, a strong recommendation and a place I will definitely be coming back to when I’m craving noodles or dumplings.
The dumplings were good as well but I prefer some of the other SGV greats.
Service is quick and friendly. No wait when I went around 1pm. This is now my go to when I get noodle cravings!
Oh and the spring onion pancakes were delicious!!!
The food was served one after another in about 20 minutes. The beef noodles was served last. All the dishes were good but my favorite was the knife cut noodles and the wife noodles. The knife cut noodles had a unique flavor but did get a bit greasy as it sat there longer while we ate the other dishes. The wife noodles tasted more like tomatoes but it was pretty good. All the noodles had good texture and were flavorful but not salty. The beef noodles tasted just average for being the most expensive dish. Note that it said it is spicy but it wasn’t spicy at all. As for the green onion pancake, it was crispy and authentic tasting.
The portions for all of them were all reasonable for the price. They were quite generous with the amount of meat for the dishes. I did not really like the texture of the beef in the noodle soup though. Also lots of noodles! We had leftovers to take home at the end even though we tried to eat as much as we could.
This noodle place overall feels authentic and homey. The service is great and I believe it is family run. I can see how they have been opened for so long. I would definitely come back again for lunch or takeout! Support small businesses!
The pickled vegetable with fatty beef (酸菜肥牛粉絲湯) was good, albeit the beef was a tiny bit too fatty. The clear broth beef noodle soup was very nice, similar to a Korean sullungtang, and the pork and leek dumplings (韭菜豬肉水餃) reminded me of home. The chili oil and black vinegar went well with the dumplings and the beef noodle soup.
Prices are not cheap these days, about $17 on average per dish, with the fatty beef soup being closer to $30 since it was a large bowl (pretty good value for how much we got). So we didn’t get any of the cold dishes even though I wanted to try them. Next time maybe!
The service was excellent as I was greeted by the owner with a big smile. They were very efficient in serving us and the food came out in no time.
As true to its accolades that greeted us on the wall, the food were amazing. I am glad that went to try out this restaurant.
We ordered our favorites knife cut noodle and the cold noodle dishes. These two noodles were as good a Northwest noodle as you can get from the region that’s known for great noodles in China. The sauce that’s blended with the noodle was so tasty. The texture of the noodle perfectly complimented my taste buds.
Our other favorites were the shrimp and pork dumpling and onion pancake. The dumplings were totally delicious and felt more of home made food. The pancakes were very flaky and flavorful.
The prices are not outrageous as most the dishes are under $16.
The restaurant shares the parking spaces with Dumpling House in the back.
If you love noodles, this place definitely worth your visit.
