Stepped into **L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele** on Highland Ave and immediately felt transported to Italy—elegant yet relaxed, with white subway tiles, warm wood accents, and that iconic neon “da Michele” sign glowing like the original Naples location since 1870 . The place is a stunner: a lively **eatery and bar** up front with craft cocktails and a solid Italian wine list, plus a **great patio** out back strung with lights—perfect for Hollywood people-watching on a warm evening.
The **host was nice** and welcoming, seating us quickly even on a busy Friday. Service stayed attentive without hovering, and the vibe is upscale-casual—great for dates or groups.
Ordered the classic **Margherita pizza**, and it arrived quickly on the signature thin, leopard-spotted crust that’s soft in the center with just the right chew. The dough is fermented perfectly—light, airy, with subtle char from the wood oven. Fresh basil and creamy fior di latte were spot-on.
Only deductions because the **sauce and cheese** felt a little **light** for my taste. Traditional Neapolitan style keeps toppings minimal (respect to the VPN certification), but I personally wanted a touch more vibrant San Marzano tang and a bit more melt from the mozzarella. It’s restrained elegance rather than loaded indulgence—if you love subtle, this is heaven; if you prefer bolder flavors, you might crave extra.
Still, da Michele Hollywood nails the authentic experience with polish and charm. One of the better true Neapolitan pies in LA, and the atmosphere alone is worth the visit. I’ll be back—next time on the patio with a glass of Aglianico.
Wonderful indoor and outdoor atmosphere, very nice service, and food like you’re in Italy.
Pasta with shrimp was strong and the lemon heavy on the garlic but delicious.
Pomodoro sauce was excellent.
Short rib Ragu was rich, filling and delicious.
Next time, we want to try the pizza!
➖… okay, so two weeks later we returned to try the pizza and neither of us liked it I know the pizza is very popular here and highly recommended, but the first one we got was cold the second one came hot but still felt undercooked and was very doughy, ughhhh
➕On the positive side, I tried their salmon tricolor salad and it was absolutely delicious!! Next time though I will ask them to undercook the salmon
Service was again very nice and charming.
A bit off-topic but there was a girl with a service dog next to our table and while I was getting in I accidentally kicked her dog’s water bowl and felt so bad 🙁 if you see this I’m so sorry!!!
Reservation highly recommended. We got really lucky that we were able to walk in, but I think you’re mainly supposed to reserve a table. They’re very booked and busy! Also I think (at least as of this post) if you plan on going, they have a promotion for $30 off your $100+ order total so definitely take advantage of that as well if you plan on visiting!
My wife, son, and I shared a Margherita and a pesto pie…the crust was phenomenal on both. The Margherita had the perfect amount of sauce and was cooked just like it should be. We loved these pizzas and found them to be truly authentic relative to what we were served all over Naples, including at their namesake Da Michele restaurant there.
We had a reservation and saw people having to wait a little bit for a table without one, but there is plenty of seating in a restaurant which is much more modern, upscale and spacious than its Naples counterpart. (And the price goes up to match that experience, but is typical for L.A.)
Service was good. The wine was good. We’d definitely go back and eat more. If you want a truly authentic Naples style pizza experience, this place is worth a visit.
The pizza, the pasta, the salad super fresh, full of flavor, and perfectly done.
Drinks were great too, and the vibe is warm, relaxed, and really inviting.
The space is beautiful and feels good to be in.
We finished with the tiramisu light, creamy, and just the right amount of sweet.
I’m definitely coming back.
