Reviews
The menu offers a wonderful selection of French classics, but the standout for me was the almond-crusted trout. The service was also great; our server was attentive and professional.
As a helpful tip for those driving: there is a very convenient paid public parking lot right in front of the building. It made getting to our reservation stress-free.
Overall, between the food, service, ease of access, and the beautiful patio, it was worth the visit.
Walking into this converted carriage house feels less like entering a restaurant and more like stumbling into a very wealthy, very French friend’s country home. The place is a delightful maze of small, quaint little rooms—nooks and crannies where the lighting is low, the chatter is happy, and the outside world ceases to exist. It’s cozy in the way a cashmere sweater is cozy: expensive, classic, and exactly what you need.
We arrived chilled to the bone, but the warmth inside was immediate—and I don’t just mean the thermostat. The service here is a lost art: attentive without hovering, knowledgeable without lecturing, and genuinely welcoming. They treat a Sunday dinner with the same ceremony as a Saturday night gala, which is a kindness that doesn’t go unnoticed.
The food, of course, is the anchor. It’s unpretentious French brasserie fare done with serious skill—rich, comforting, and designed to make you forget the temperature outside. But honestly? It’s the atmosphere that lingers. In a world of open-concept, industrial-chic dining halls that sound like airplane hangars, L’Albatros remains a sanctuary of intimacy.
Verdict: Go for the cheese cart, stay because it feels like a hug from a French grandmother who really knows her wine. A perfect Sunday escape.
The service was incredible and the food was even better. We would highly recommend treating yourself to this restaurant.
It is conveniently located next to the museum circle.
Definitely make a reservation or get there early.
However, when we arrived, the host seated us at a table. I asked again to sit at the bar, but the bar area was completely empty and looked like it wasn’t even open. After waiting about 5 minutes, a server finally came over. I ordered an Old Fashioned. A few minutes later, he came back asking if we were ready to order. There was no menu introduction at all, and he kept pushing us to place our order.
My friend chose the escargot and duck confit. We wanted to start with these two dishes first, then decide what to order next. But the server told us he had to take our full order. That meant I was forced to order an entrée as well. He explained it was because of the kitchen’s “operations” and that the kitchen was busy. But it was 4 PM, and the restaurant was clearly not busy at all. The way he insisted felt disrespectful. I have never heard of a fine dining restaurant requiring guests to order everything at once and not allowing us to start with appetizers.
I ended up ordering a medium-rare steak. When it came out, the entire surface was burnt, and it tasted like burnt char. A good steak should never be served this way. My friend and I were very disappointed with both the service and the food.
We still left a 20% tip, but we will not be coming back.
